The love of God is greater far
Than tongue or pen can ever tell.
It goes beyond the highest star
And reaches to the lowest hell.
The guilty pair, bowed down with care,
God gave His Son to win;
His erring child He reconciled
And pardoned from his sin.
Than tongue or pen can ever tell.
It goes beyond the highest star
And reaches to the lowest hell.
The guilty pair, bowed down with care,
God gave His Son to win;
His erring child He reconciled
And pardoned from his sin.
O love of God, how rich and pure!
How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure—
The saints’ and angels’ song.
How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure—
The saints’ and angels’ song.

When hoary time shall pass away,
And earthly thrones and kingdoms fall;
When men who here refuse to pray,
On rocks and hills and mountains call;
God’s love, so sure, shall still endure,
All measureless and strong;
Redeeming grace to Adam’s race—
The saints’ and angels’ song.
And earthly thrones and kingdoms fall;
When men who here refuse to pray,
On rocks and hills and mountains call;
God’s love, so sure, shall still endure,
All measureless and strong;
Redeeming grace to Adam’s race—
The saints’ and angels’ song.

Could we with ink the ocean fill,
And were the skies of parchment made;
Were every stalk on earth a quill,
And every man a scribe by trade;
To write the love of God above
Would drain the ocean dry;
Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
Though stretched from sky to sky.
And were the skies of parchment made;
Were every stalk on earth a quill,
And every man a scribe by trade;
To write the love of God above
Would drain the ocean dry;
Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
Though stretched from sky to sky.

No other song expresses and illustrates the love of God in more poetic grandeur than this song. I particularly like the magnitude and infiniteness of God's love expressed by the imagery in the last verse.

This hymn came up n my purity after 49 years since we last sang it church.
Hi have been searching the scriptures for examples of the love of God. The most beautiful examples are found in the words of King David in his psalm 103: 1 - 14
Every verse expresses an action of Our Father’s love!
What a precious psalm; What a precious hymn!

I woke up up this morning hearing this beloved song in my spirit. I rushed to find the lyrics. Yes I’ve also heard the story of the insane asylum man. This song makes me cry every time I hear it. Goosebumps 🙏
O this is my favorite part right now:

On rocks and hills and mountains call;
God’s love, so sure, shall still endure,"

This song has so rich a message that speaks to me afresh everytime am listening, singing or reading it. It's a complete sermon that speaks volumes of the love of God. It goes beyond the highest star to the lowest hell. We are always engulfed in His enduring love.
Amen

I heard the last verse was found written on the wall of a person who was in the room of an insane asylum. It was written by the person who was the patient in the room who had just passed away. It was mentioned in the sermon of the minister who was preaching that night of my visit to that church. The minister said; "it is such an encouragement to me that a poor patient in an insane asylum apparently found the Lord evidently just weeks before he died. And wrote about his glorious experience on the wall of his hospital room ".
