The love of God is greater far
Than tongue or pen can ever tell.
It goes beyond the highest star
And reaches to the lowest hell.
The guilty pair, bowed down with care,
God gave His Son to win;
His erring child He reconciled
And pardoned from his sin.
Than tongue or pen can ever tell.
It goes beyond the highest star
And reaches to the lowest hell.
The guilty pair, bowed down with care,
God gave His Son to win;
His erring child He reconciled
And pardoned from his sin.
O love of God, how rich and pure!
How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure—
The saints’ and angels’ song.
How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure—
The saints’ and angels’ song.

When hoary time shall pass away,
And earthly thrones and kingdoms fall;
When men who here refuse to pray,
On rocks and hills and mountains call;
God’s love, so sure, shall still endure,
All measureless and strong;
Redeeming grace to Adam’s race—
The saints’ and angels’ song.
And earthly thrones and kingdoms fall;
When men who here refuse to pray,
On rocks and hills and mountains call;
God’s love, so sure, shall still endure,
All measureless and strong;
Redeeming grace to Adam’s race—
The saints’ and angels’ song.

Could we with ink the ocean fill,
And were the skies of parchment made;
Were every stalk on earth a quill,
And every man a scribe by trade;
To write the love of God above
Would drain the ocean dry;
Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
Though stretched from sky to sky.
And were the skies of parchment made;
Were every stalk on earth a quill,
And every man a scribe by trade;
To write the love of God above
Would drain the ocean dry;
Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
Though stretched from sky to sky.

My mother sang this beautiful hymn, frequently, as a lullaby to me in my earliest childhood. When I hear the melody today, I am still transported in memory to the feeling of warmth and safety in her arms, to feeling her love while she sang to me of God’s even greater love. I, too, have always found this hymn to be a wonderful way to rock a child to sleep.

This is a beautiful song that always reminds me of the love of God. Poetic writing of God's love

This hymn beautifully expresses the immeasurable and enduring love of God, emphasizing its vastness that surpasses human comprehension. The imagery of God's love reaching from the highest star to the lowest hell and enduring through the passage of time is both powerful and comforting. The repetition of the refrain underscores the richness, purity, and strength of God's love, making it a timeless theme celebrated by both saints and angels.

I first heard this song in Kinyarwanda when I lived in Rwanda as a missionary and it has never ceased to make an impact in my life: oh how unfathomable the love of God is! May we, His children never cease to be channels of the same.

Oh love of God how rich and pure. Yes. Not only is His love pure and rich to us, it’s vastness is beyond our comprehension. This thought or inspiration stirs this immeasurable love in us. What a thought in a man suffering so much.
If you want to listen to a worship hymn about Gods love, this hymn is never gonna give you up never gonna let you down never gonna run around and desert you! The melody is really cool!
