On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross, The emblem of suff’ring and shame, And I love that old cross where the Dearest and Best For a world of lost sinners was slain.

Oh, that old rugged cross, so despised by the world, Has a wondrous attraction for me; For the dear Lamb of God left His glory above, To bear it to dark Calvary.

In the old rugged cross, stained with blood so divine, A wondrous beauty I see; For ’twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died, To pardon and sanctify me.

A song rich in text & harmony. A true remembrance and reflection of the saving works of our Lord. Unfortunately, a lot of us had de-cling to the old rugged cross and cling to the destructive prosperity gospel. Lord! save us and our whole world.
The best Good Friday message. The events are undesirable but the result is cherished. With human weakness nature clinging on the cross is inevitable. The crown is what a believer needs.
This is one of the songs for this Easter season and beyond. I love the cross because there I obtain salvation and love. God’s love in action to all humanity.
Poor theology. I will not cherish or cling to the cross. To quote a theologically much better hymn, "My hope is built in nothing less than Jesus' blood and righteousness; I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus' name.... ". The only thing I cherish or cling to is, Jesus!
I love this song so much.. I had forgotten it and here today I tried to memorise it.. only could know its tune.. then while I was travelling I passed by a miraculous cross and soon I could sing it out!! 💓 Songs really replenishes our faith❤️❤️ Love you Jesus and my Holy cross❤️❤️
