O God, our help in ages past

1
O God, our help in ages past,
  Our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast,
  And our eternal home.
2
Under the shadow of Thy throne
  Thy saints have dwelt secure;
Sufficient is Thine arm alone,
  And our defence is sure.
3
Before the hills in order stood,
  Or earth received her frame,
From everlasting Thou art God,
  To endless years the same.
4
A thousand ages in Thy sight
  Are like an evening gone;
Short as the watch that ends the night
  Before the rising sun.
5
Time, like an ever-rolling stream,
  Bears all its sons away;
They fly forgotten, as a dream
  Dies at the opening day.
6
O God, our help in ages past,
  Our hope for years to come,
Be Thou our guard while life shall last,
  And our eternal home.

My Mother used the first stanza at the beginning of her prayers, now I have found the words she she prayed and lived. I can see why she used them! For she is with our Lord The Father but knew when she spake then that she would be secure! Amen

Can't sleep...... then this hymn came up in my heart. God is indeed my help, He has been from time past, He is now, and I'm rest assured He will continually be. Because He lives I can face tomorrow. Thank You for the peace Lord. God bless the writer of this hymn.

Not sleeping, I read the first 6 chapters of A. W. Tower's book on the attributes of God... and this hymn, with its glorious words, gravity and beautiful harmony came to mind. God be Praised!

I just finished singing this hymn to dedicate me afresh to my Maker once again on this morning of my birthday.

The third verse of this great hymn kept ringing in my mind and I had to look it up here. Before the hills in order stood, or earth received her frame, from everlasting Thou art God, through endless years the same. So let our King be lifted high, now and forevermore; amen.

Thank you and I so appreciate this old hymn. The God of this hymn remains faithful, the same yesterday, today and for ever. Heb 13:8. Amen

I just heard church bells playing this hymn and couldn't remember all the words, so I looked it up here. Beautiful.

Takes me back about 26 years ago, my first year in secondary school to be precise. I'm assured today that Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever more. So happy hearing and singing this hymn once again.

The hymn is one of my best—it keeps reminding me of the fact that without Him (God), I can do nothing. That God the Holy Spirit is all the Help I need in all matters in life.
