1
O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast,
And our eternal home.
Our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast,
And our eternal home.
2
Under the shadow of Thy throne
Thy saints have dwelt secure;
Sufficient is Thine arm alone,
And our defence is sure.
Thy saints have dwelt secure;
Sufficient is Thine arm alone,
And our defence is sure.
3
Before the hills in order stood,
Or earth received her frame,
From everlasting Thou art God,
To endless years the same.
Or earth received her frame,
From everlasting Thou art God,
To endless years the same.
4
A thousand ages in Thy sight
Are like an evening gone;
Short as the watch that ends the night
Before the rising sun.
Are like an evening gone;
Short as the watch that ends the night
Before the rising sun.
5
Time, like an ever-rolling stream,
Bears all its sons away;
They fly forgotten, as a dream
Dies at the opening day.
Bears all its sons away;
They fly forgotten, as a dream
Dies at the opening day.
6
O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Be Thou our guard while life shall last,
And our eternal home.
Our hope for years to come,
Be Thou our guard while life shall last,
And our eternal home.

I thank You O Lord my God for being my Eternal Home. Draw Tariq close to You, Father so that he may experience the reality of Your Love in Jesus.

We used to sing this hymn along with others in my school in Karachi, Pakistan in the fifties. We were a mixed bag of students from many countries, some refugees of the European wars, some local, some refugees from India and muslim; I was one of those. But whatever our religious background we loved to sing hymns and I still feel pleasure in this even though I now live in England and am a devout atheist. Another I enjoyed was "When I survey the wondrous cross". The words appealed to me not the supernatural content, i.e. the human element, the sense of loss or joy in our lives. I wish you all well even though I think you are deluded in seeking supernatural help in your lives. It is us who can help not air. But let us sing anyway.

Indeed the Lord has been my help in ages past and He still my help today, I cannot but sing His praises and worship to His holy name. I cannot do a thing without Your help Lord. Am so grateful!

Seen some very disturbing children books at local library today celebrating sexual perversion and worried sick about the future of our nation... and my precious children raising them in such an evil culture. Are we not under God's judgement already when he lets people over to a debased mind? Needed a time of refreshing and comfort from God and found myself singing this hymn. Peace has since flooded my soul. What have we to fear? Greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world. 1 John 4:4. Longing to be with Him in our eternal home together with my dear wife and little lambs.

You are Awesome, O LORD my God. You are my help in ages past and my hope for years to come. You are my shelter from the stormy blast and my eternal home. Sufficient is Thine arm alone and my defence is sure. Be Thou my guard while life shall last, and my eternal home. Amen.

My 5 years old son was always singing this song (sometimes up to 25 times a day) while in sick (Leukemia) bed in India. The Almighty God was indeed his help. God saw him through. However, few months later, after a display of cruelty and wickedness by some medical personnel in our own National Hospital.and Garki General Hospital in Abuja, UyaiAbasi - Akwaima went to be with the LORD.
We sing this song everyday in our house to remember a child who loved GOD so much and a GOD who is always there for His children.

Am encouraged any time I sing this song (like I just did) because it reminds me that what ever am going through right now... HE (God Almighty) has seen me through worst storms He will see me through this too. "And hope maketh not ashamed;..." Romans 5:5a
