O God, our help in ages past

1
O God, our help in ages past,
  Our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast,
  And our eternal home.
2
Under the shadow of Thy throne
  Thy saints have dwelt secure;
Sufficient is Thine arm alone,
  And our defence is sure.
3
Before the hills in order stood,
  Or earth received her frame,
From everlasting Thou art God,
  To endless years the same.
4
A thousand ages in Thy sight
  Are like an evening gone;
Short as the watch that ends the night
  Before the rising sun.
5
Time, like an ever-rolling stream,
  Bears all its sons away;
They fly forgotten, as a dream
  Dies at the opening day.
6
O God, our help in ages past,
  Our hope for years to come,
Be Thou our guard while life shall last,
  And our eternal home.

What happened to:

Forgive, we now, each other's faults

As we our faults confess,

And let us love each other well

In Christian holiness.

God indeed has been true in our lives as the lyrics of this song.

He has been our help, our shield and support over the years and even today.

I bow in awe of Him and worship.

We know He will be our help until the end of our days here on earth.

While in church this morning this song gave me the assurance of everlasting help from God. While reading the word of the song I am assured that the help I got in the past will never cease as we move into the future.

Thank You Lord for the assurance of the future despite the uncertainty.

I thought of this hymn while I am sitting in the park enjoying the beauty of God's awrsome creation! The words of the first few lines of this gloroous hymn came to mind and I wanted to read the words of the whole hymn. I thank the Lord for His great faithfulness to me for many years!

I thank You O Lord my God for being my Eternal Home. Draw Tariq close to You, Father so that he may experience the reality of Your Love in Jesus.

We used to sing this hymn along with others in my school in Karachi, Pakistan in the fifties. We were a mixed bag of students from many countries, some refugees of the European wars, some local, some refugees from India and muslim; I was one of those. But whatever our religious background we loved to sing hymns and I still feel pleasure in this even though I now live in England and am a devout atheist. Another I enjoyed was "When I survey the wondrous cross". The words appealed to me not the supernatural content, i.e. the human element, the sense of loss or joy in our lives. I wish you all well even though I think you are deluded in seeking supernatural help in your lives. It is us who can help not air. But let us sing anyway.
