Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty!
Unto everlasting days our song shall rise to Thee;
Holy, Holy, Holy, Merciful and Mighty!
God in Three Persons, blessed Trinity!
Unto everlasting days our song shall rise to Thee;
Holy, Holy, Holy, Merciful and Mighty!
God in Three Persons, blessed Trinity!

Holy, Holy, Holy! all the saints adore Thee;
Heaven’s elders cast their crowns down by the glassy sea;
Cherubim and seraphim worship too before Thee,
Who wert, and art, and evermore shalt be.
Heaven’s elders cast their crowns down by the glassy sea;
Cherubim and seraphim worship too before Thee,
Who wert, and art, and evermore shalt be.
3
Holy, Holy, Holy! though the darkness hide Thee,
Though the eye of sinful man Thy glory may not see,
Only Thou art holy, there is none beside Thee
Perfect in power, in love, and purity.
Though the eye of sinful man Thy glory may not see,
Only Thou art holy, there is none beside Thee
Perfect in power, in love, and purity.

Reginald Heber, son of a clergyman of the same name, was born in Malpas, Cheshire, England, April 21, 1783, and educated at Oxford. He served the church in Hodnet, Shropshire, for about 20 years, and was then appointed Bishop of Calcutta. His work was cut short at the prime of his life when he passed away on April 3, 1826.
Heber wrote 57 hymns which were collected by his widow and published in his poetical works in 1842.
The tune “Nicæa” was written by Dr. John B. Dykes, a renowned Doctor of Music. He was born at Kingston-upon-Hull, in 1823; and graduated from Cambridge in 1847. Dykes became a master of tone and choral harmony, and did much to reform and elevate congregational psalmody in England. He was the first to demonstrate that hymn-tune making can be reduced to a science without impairing its spiritual purpose.
He died on January 22, 1876.

God is still Holy in all His splendor and yet still alive! During this time of the pandemic He is yet still Holy and Reign. He has gotten the world's attention and reminded us that we are the church because He lives in us. Many have returned back to Him and we are to praise and lift Him up! This hymnal blessed my soul this morning. 🙏 He is truly a God of mercy. ❤
