When we walk with the Lord
In the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way;
While we do His good will,
He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.
In the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way;
While we do His good will,
He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.
Trust and obey,
For there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus,
But to trust and obey.
For there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus,
But to trust and obey.
2
Not a shadow can rise,
Not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear,
Not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.
Not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear,
Not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.
3
Not a burden we bear,
Not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief or a loss,
Not a frown or a cross,
But is blest if we trust and obey.
Not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief or a loss,
Not a frown or a cross,
But is blest if we trust and obey.
4
But we never can prove
The delights of His love,
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor He shows,
And the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.
The delights of His love,
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor He shows,
And the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.
5
Then in fellowship sweet
We will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
What He says we will do;
Where He sends, we will go,
Never fear, only trust and obey.
We will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
What He says we will do;
Where He sends, we will go,
Never fear, only trust and obey.

For those who are thinking this is all this man wrote: actually, he wrote over 100 hymns but most are not sung now. Most of them are on the themes of trust and obedience. You can Google him for more info. As with all writers, time has a way of sifting out the poorer hymns and leaving the best and this is definitely his best. We still sing it regularly in our Methodist Church.

If we have faith in God, we will trust and obey Him. For by doing this we show He's our all in all.

This is the very essence of Faith: Trust and Obey. In Hebrews, the eleventh chapter, we are shown some factual statements about faith but not its actual definition. True, it is the substance of things hoped for, and it is the evidence of things not seen. However, neither of these things nor the sum of them together equals the nature of Faith. Faith is doing your part in a relationship whether or not you see your partner doing his. In the salvific relationship a Christian enjoys with his Lord, it consists of trusting God and obeying Him, even when the fruits of such trust and obedience are not evident. Only then does the Author of Hebrews' words' meaning become clear: Faith is the substance of the heavenly reward that you hope for; it is the assurance of the fruits of your faith that you cannot yet see.

Lovely hymn taken out from new methodist hymn book. Sing in praise. Such a shame as only hymn this man wrote.

In response to Mary Maclin of Cleveland, Ohio, Christians are commanded by the Lord Jesus Christ Himself, as written by Paul, His Apostle to the Gentiles, that we are to sing and make melody in our heart to Him. Please read Ephesians 5:19 and Colossians 3:16. If you trust and obey as the hymn is titled, you will gladly keep His commandment and sing praise to Him.
