On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,
The emblem of suff'ring and shame,
And I love that old cross where the Dearest and Best
For a world of lost sinners was slain.
The emblem of suff'ring and shame,
And I love that old cross where the Dearest and Best
For a world of lost sinners was slain.
So I'll cherish the old rugged cross,
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it some day for a crown.
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it some day for a crown.

Oh, that old rugged cross, so despised by the world,
Has a wondrous attraction for me;
For the dear Lamb of God left His glory above,
To bear it to dark Calvary.
Has a wondrous attraction for me;
For the dear Lamb of God left His glory above,
To bear it to dark Calvary.

In the old rugged cross, stained with blood so divine,
A wondrous beauty I see;
For 'twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died,
To pardon and sanctify me.
A wondrous beauty I see;
For 'twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died,
To pardon and sanctify me.

A beautifully presented hymn. The power of the cross and the crown of eternity.

The song reminds me of the cross and gift of salvation from Jesus Christ. How my life should reflect the cost of His death for mankind.

These words touched my heart when I was 13 years of age, sung in Dutch translation by a Dutch singer. And now, 60 years later, I for the first time heard the original English version with tears. What a deepness of the Gospel! It is so great what Jezus did for us. Without Jezus, thee is no hope; with Jesus I can live full of hope and peace in my heart. He washed my sins away!
It is all mercyness.

I first remember hearing this song about 60 years ago on a television show. It was sung by a gentleman named of Tennessee Ernie Ford. It moved me then as a young girl and still does today as a Grandmother. I can hardly sing the words because I am so choked up. I just want to hold His lifeless body in my arms. He has held me in His arms so many times throughout my life and to think He chose to go to the cross carrying my sins in His sinless body. I am so grateful for that cross and for my Savior. For so long I wanted to do something to repay His sacrifice but I now realize the best I can do is to love Him, honor Him, and follow Him wherever He leads me during the time I have left on this earth. Then I will worship Him for all of eternity. Thank you, Jesus.

My anthem. I enjoy how deep and spiritual this song is . Has always been a life saving song and reminding me of how sacrificial the death of our Lord Jesus is.

This is the most uplifting son. I like singing it in swahili. The chorus. "Naupenda msalaba huu, nitashinda kwa nguvu zake, naupenda msalaba huu, taji nitapewa huko juu.

I thank God for using this song to be a blessing to my life. I cannot describe the way I am feeling this morning. Jesus is Lord. I pray
for boko haram victims that God use this song and save Nigeria from the wicked acts of Boko Haram, banditries and untoward behaviours of wicked elements in the world.
