I'm pressing on the upward way

1
I'm pressing on the upward way,
New heights I'm gaining every day;
Still praying as I onward bound,
"Lord, plant my feet on higher ground."

Lord, lift me up, and let me stand
By faith on Canaan's tableland;
A higher plane than I have found,
  Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.
2
My heart has no desire to stay
Where doubts arise and fears dismay;
Though some may dwell where these abound,
My prayer, my aim, is higher ground.
3
I want to live above the world,
Though Satan's darts at me are hurled;
For faith has caught the joyful sound,
The song of saints on higher ground.
4
I want to scale the utmost height
And catch a gleam of glory bright;
But still I'll pray till rest I've found,
"Lord, lead me on to higher ground."

This song is my inspiration. I go to sleep and wake up with this song on my lips and in my heart. It inspires me to move on through hard times. I don't know what it does to others but it helps me go through life believing that there is a higher ground that I belong on and that one day I will surely be there. I cry whenever, I sing this song because it means a lot more to me than just a hymn.

I like this song because it uplifts my spirit.

Everytime I feel sad and lonely I play it over and over until I sometimes cry tears of joy.

My heart just bubbles over when I listen to it and I feel as if I am talking to the Lord and He is hearing me. It is my "picker upper".

I praise God for the message of this song. It has always been very personal to me. Every time I'm down this has always been the song of my heart. This is my prayer. This song never fades. It never runs obsolete. May this song forever minister to those who are at the lowest times of their lives, including myself...

Praise Him for this wonderful hymn, attending the blending conference in Israel was a wonderful experience for me, I love the Lord and his Body. After touring the Mount Of Olives we went back on the tour bus and sang this hymn...Oh Lord I felt truly lifted from this darkened age and realized how much the Body means to me and how He chose me before the foundation of this world to be a member of His unique Body. May the Lord continue to work Himself into me, lift me up to a higher ground.

On the way to work, I listen this wonderful hymn. It recalls my memories that God has led me through. He still faithfully leads me.

The words to this hymn came into my mind this morning as I came before God. I lost my 43 year old husband 8 weeks ago, suddenly. We have 5 children ages 11 -18. God has been faithfully holding me through this terrible devastation, and the grief I am experiencing. He is teaching me that this life we live on earth is not about smoothness and ease, it is about becoming totally reliant on Him...that it is the spiritual life that is important, and the physical one, which seeks to be comfortable is secondary. A smooth and comfortable life is not a good life...there is no need for God, there is no growth in Him. It was the words "a higher plane..." that came to my mind, He wants us to live above the turmoil or pleasure we are experiencing here on earth right now, and to live spiritually in total reliance on Him...the One who knows the end from the beginning, the One who is all-wise and knows what is best for us (even though we can't see it sometimes). He won't relent until He has it all... God bless you, whoever you are reading this, may you experience life on 'a higher plane' today.

This is one thing we must all desire everyday. Higher Ground. That is the plan of God for us all. I pray that we will go up higher everyday of our life according to God's divine plan for us.

This morning the Holy Spirit has been playing this tune to me. Jesus calls us all to higher ground; a place where God is, a place where the enemy is overpowered by the presence of Jesus. It is the place of victory. Our calling is to serve others from this higher ground showing the world a better place to live.

To be in the spirit is the key, the secret. In the spirit we will experience many wonderful things of Christ because we have crossed the Jordan and entered into Canaan. When we are in the spirit, we are in the rest, and we are in the Holy of Holies. Therefore, we must always renounce the natural man, the outer man. For example, many times in the Lord's work I was tempted by the enemy to quarrel with others. On those occasions I felt that my reason was right, that the case was mine, and that I had the doctrine to support me. Yet while I was trying to speak, something deep within restricted me and stopped me. In order to go along with that deep feeling, I had to drop my quarreling. Consequently, it seemed that I had nothing to say. But I can testify that every time I went along with the spirit, there was victory. If we take care of our spirit, the mighty One in our spirit will be our strength. We will be transcendent and victorious over many things. When we come to the meetings, we will come with many items of Christ to contribute, either in prayer, singing, giving a testimony, or speaking a short word. Philippians 4:13 says, "I am able to do all things in Him who empowers me." But where does Christ empower us? He empowers us in our spirit. Our mind is the stronghold and the open gate for the enemy, but our spirit is the base for the Lord to do His work. Thus, when we go along with the mind, we are defeated, even though we may be doing something good. But if we go along with the spirit, we will be victorious. We will be on a high mountain, on higher ground, and, in the words of a hymn, "on Canaan's tableland" (Hymns, #396). We will be in the heavens and will be transcendent.
