I am Thine, O Lord, I have heard Thy voice

1
I am Thine, O Lord, I have heard Thy voice,
  And it told Thy love to me;
But I long to rise in the arms of faith,
  And be closer drawn to Thee.

Draw me nearer, nearer, blessed Lord,
  To the cross where Thou hast died;
Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer, blessed Lord,
    To Thy precious, bleeding side.
2
Consecrate me now to Thy service, Lord,
  By the pow'r of grace divine;
Let my soul look up with a steadfast hope,
  And my will be lost in Thine.
3
O the pure delight of a single hour
  That before Thy throne I spend,
When I kneel in prayer, and with Thee, my God,
  I commune as friend with friend!
4
There are depths of love that I yet may know
  Ere Thee face to face I see;
There are heights of joy that I yet may reach
  Ere I rest in peace with Thee.

I have just read psalm 56 and I was impressed with the script so much I was in tears then led to this hymn. I have had a great start to another day aged 85 may God bless you.

The composer of the music to this hymn had many interests in addition to gospel music. He was an inventor, a businessman, who owned a large machine factory, and a civic leader. But what William Doane enjoyed the most was serving in Sunday school and writing music. He became Fanny Crosby‘s main partner in writing gospel songs. And they were good friends as well. One evening as Fanny Crosby visited William at his home in Cincinnati, they were talking about the wonderful privilege of being able to experience and enjoy being near to God, to feel his presence, and to delight in His love. Suddenly, Fanny, the famous blind songwriter, stopped talking, and said she had an idea for a song. Word for word, she dictated the song to William. The next morning he came up with a tune to go with the song. Those words and that tune became a well loved hymn “I am Thine Oh, Lord. ” Crosby literally drew her inspiration from several Bible passages:

Hebrews 10:22 “Let us come forward to the Holy of Holies with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. ”

Hebrews 10:19 “Having therefore brothers, boldness for entering the Holy of Holies in the blood of Jesus. ”

James 4:8 “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, sinners

and purify your hearts, you double souled. ”

As is typical of Crosby‘s hymns, she wrote in the first person, making this a very personal statement of faith. This is reflected of the revivalist tradition at the time. Her hymns strongly express the personal aspect of her relationship with her Savior and her heart felt response to that commitment.

I was just rounding up an Holy Communion sermon titled Another Chance to reunite with Jesus at the Communion table and this hymn just popped up in my spirit and I had to search it out! I felt so refreshed knowing that the song is in line with my message for the Holy Communion Service on Sunday in my Parish! I was so humbled with it!

As I was on my knees today and praying the song came to me it’s such a wonderful way to concentrate and surrender into the hands of Jesus and be totally wrapped in his loving arms .

From past 4 days I am unable to complete my sleep and take proper rest today I was a bit free so thought of going to bed and resting and also sleep for sometime but as I was trying my best to sleep I was struggling I wasn’t getting any sleep and my head started to become heavy and right side of my head started to get that num feeling . Then I thought there is no point of trying my way because I violated the way that God has planned for our body to work and obey to his way . Repented and started to pray then suddenly this song pop up out of my mouth and blessed me with peace and healing.

Thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

On my knees this morning as I was starting my weekly fasting and prayer this hymn dropped in my spirit and I decided to check it out and by His grace it's in agreement with the dedication/consecration that the Lord has led me to today. To Him be all the glory. I hereby dedicate my life anew to Him and His service. Amen.
