Fear not, I am with thee

1
“Fear not, I am with thee”;
Blessed golden ray,
Like a star of glory,
Lighting up my way!
Through the clouds of midnight,
This bright promise shone,
“I will never leave thee,
Never will leave thee alone.”

No, never alone,
  No, never alone;
He promised never to leave me,
  Never to leave me alone;
No, never alone,
  No, never alone;
He promised never to leave me,
    Never to leave me alone.
2
Roses fade around me,
Lilies bloom and die,
Earthly sunbeams vanish—
Radiant still the sky!
Jesus, Henna-flower,*
Blooming for His own,
Jesus, heaven’s sunshine,
Never will leave me alone.
3
Steps unseen before me,
Hidden dangers near;
Nearer still my Savior,
Whispering, “Be of cheer”;
Joys, like birds of springtime,
To my heart have flown,
Singing all so sweetly,
“He will not leave me alone.”
An Old World plant, prized for its fragrant yellow and white flowers. (Song of Sol. 1:14, A.S.V.)

NO! I WILL NEVER EVER LEAVE THE LORD! He promised me He will never leave me and He will keep me safe and sound with Him for the the rest my life to be shared with Him; my Shield and rock and Saviour.

This song is really good! Today is the first time I heard it. "Roses fade around me, Lilies bloom and die,

Earthly sunbeams vanish," but Jesus! Jesus our Beloved Jesus! So present, so real, always new! With us today and with us till the end!

How wonderful that we do not have to wait until our roses fade and our earthly sunbeams vanish, today and at any time we can take Him as our Habitation, our dwelling place! And thus enjoy His very, sweet, always prevailing presence.

He is watching over me. I have no fear.

This song reminds me of my childhood when I used to sing it most of the time. This song was like my breath. Still today at the age of 29 also, I like this song very much. This is the song that strengthened me at times of trouble, during my hostel days, when my parents were not with me. Truly He never left me lonely.

I remember when I was in my age of 6 I sang this song with my grandma when she was 78 (and now she is no more) and one of my friends today asked the lyrics of this song to sing to her mother who felt sick and she asked her to sing the same song

to her mother in her last bed days... I really like this song very much and I believe this same song will comfort me also during my last breath I love my Jesus.

This song reminds me of my college days at Moi university in Kenya. We would go to Marakwet and Kerio valley with my friends to preach the gospel of Jesus there. A friend of mine called Zipporah taught me the song. And it has been such an encouragement all these days.

Revised version:

1. "Always I'll be with you"—

Promise sweet to hear,

Fills my heart with comfort,

Drives away my fear;

Through long night and gloomy,

Christ my shield will be;

He will ne'er forsake me,

Always be with me.

Chorus:

The Lord is with me,

The Lord is with me;

He's promised He will be with me

Unto eternity.

The Lord is with me,

The Lord is with me;

He's promised He will be with me

Unto eternity.

2. Every flower withers;

His love never will.

Earthly sunlight darkens;

Heav'nly's splendid still.

He's like myrrh, a bundle,

'Twixt my breasts all night.

Always He'll be with me,

Till that morning light.

3. Rough the way before me;

Trials soon increase;

But the Lord is nearer,

Saying, "Be at peace."

Joys, like birds of springtime,

Fill my heart with glee;

Cause me to sing sweetly,

"The Lord is with me!"
