The old rugged cross

1
On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,
  The emblem of suff’ring and shame,
And I love that old cross where the Dearest and Best
  For a world of lost sinners was slain.
  So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross,
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
  And exchange it some day for a crown.
2
Oh, that old rugged cross, so despised by the world,
  Has a wondrous attraction for me;
For the dear Lamb of God left His glory above,
  To bear it to dark Calvary.
3
In the old rugged cross, stained with blood so divine,
  A wondrous beauty I see;
For ’twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died,
  To pardon and sanctify me.

What could be better than that He (Jesus Christ) laid down His life for me that I may have life. That old rugged cross where He bled and died for me. Thank You Jesus. I well meet You some day by and by.

I have also seen this as a final verse:

To the old rugged cross I will ever be true;

Its shame and reproach gladly bear;

Then He’ll call me some day to my home far away,

Where His glory forever I’ll share.

I hope and will always be hopeful to put off this corruptible for the incorruptible by cherishing and cleaving to the old rugged cross. Some day I'm going to see Jesus and thank Him personally for the price He paid to save my soul.

Truly a hymn given to us by the Almighty Father to remind us that all salvation is found through Christ!

When I am down I sing this hymn and my heart lifts with rejoice for Christ and God. Glory be to all!!

Whenever I am heart broken and sing this song, I remember that ON THE CROSS EVERYTHING WAS PAID AND FINISHED. I feel some peace of mind. Thank You Jesus for dying for my sins.

I woke up in the middle of the night with this song going through my mind. Thank You Father. (I had a tough day yesterday. My marriage ended in divorce 12 years ago. I was a lonely child and adult. I found out Robin died. I wonder what he was going through.)

When I was 15 years old I believed my value came from being perfect. To cope with the failure rejection and ridicule that came from trying to be perfect I smoked marijuana and slept a lot. Around that time I heard a Bible teacher say our value came from how God made us and what Jesus did for us on the cross, and if we trusted Him as our king we would receive forgiveness for everything we've ever done and experience true life. Since then I've realized I can't make myself more or less valuable, and that when I trust Jesus enough to follow Him (as my king) I experience true life.

Would you like to trust Jesus as your king so you too can experience true life?

I grew up singing this song in church and have the 1st stanza and chorus memorized by heart. I've noticed here recently I've started humming it when I'm rocking either my almost 2 year old or 1 of the 3 month old twins to sleep. This is one of my most favorite hymns I use to sing in church.
