On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,
The emblem of suff’ring and shame,
And I love that old cross where the Dearest and Best
For a world of lost sinners was slain.
The emblem of suff’ring and shame,
And I love that old cross where the Dearest and Best
For a world of lost sinners was slain.
So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross,
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it some day for a crown.
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it some day for a crown.

Oh, that old rugged cross, so despised by the world,
Has a wondrous attraction for me;
For the dear Lamb of God left His glory above,
To bear it to dark Calvary.
Has a wondrous attraction for me;
For the dear Lamb of God left His glory above,
To bear it to dark Calvary.

In the old rugged cross, stained with blood so divine,
A wondrous beauty I see;
For ’twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died,
To pardon and sanctify me.
A wondrous beauty I see;
For ’twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died,
To pardon and sanctify me.

4. To the old rugged cross
I will ever be true
It's shame and reproach gladly bear
Then He'll call me some day
To my home far away
Where His glory forever I'll share

To the old rugged Cross, I will ever be true
Its shame and reproach gladly bear
Then He'll call me some day to my home far away
Where His glory forever I'll share
So I'll cherish the old rugged Cross
Till my trophies, at last, I lay down
I will cling to the old rugged Cross
And exchange it some day for a crown

Then He’ll call me someday to my home far away,
Where His glory forever I’ll share.

Recently, I visited a church and we sang this hymn. There was a fourth verse in the hymnal that I'd never seen before. I came here hoping to find it. If anyone does please post it. Thank you.

One day the old rugged cross made sense to me whilst I had been so enlightened on the gospel of God.

While praying today as I began to close. This glorious song of my childhood quickly flashed by, inside my heart. So I looked it up and "began singing it", "to myself entirely ".
It Felt awesome.
As I sang, I remembered my father sitting next to me at our Wednesday nights singing service, how I loved hearing my father's singing voice.
""I love this song so very much that it hurts we can not find any churches that will sing these important HOLY GHOST filled songs anymore"", They are truly Anointed by God and fill the room with HIS HOLY presence when sang.
There is a gigantic difference from what they sing in a "baptist" church today compared to a Baptist church in the 6o's And 70's.
"Really breaks my heart". "It is the saddest thing that's happened to the local churches" to the point of tears.
