I’m pressing on the upward way

1
I’m pressing on the upward way,
New heights I’m gaining every day;
Still praying as I onward bound,
“Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.”
  Lord, lift me up, and let me stand
By faith on Canaan’s tableland;
A higher plane than I have found,
  Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.
2
My heart has no desire to stay
Where doubts arise and fears dismay;
Though some may dwell where these abound,
My prayer, my aim, is higher ground.
3
I want to live above the world,
Though Satan’s darts at me are hurled;
For faith has caught the joyful sound,
The song of saints on higher ground.
4
I want to scale the utmost height
And catch a gleam of glory bright;
But still I’ll pray till rest I’ve found,
“Lord, lead me on to higher ground.”

I loved this song: one of my favorite Christian songs. Above is higher than clouds, where my Lord and Head and Saviour found.

The second verse of this song is a prayer I believe we must all pray. The earnest expectation of creation awaits the manifestation of the sons of God. Enough of the sins, doubts and fears that has held us down. It's time for a walk with God on higher ground.

This song came to me while I was cooking and I began to search for the words even though I knew it in my dialect. The song is so inspiring and comforting as it strenghens me on the rocky roads I am throding in this life.

In my devotions this morning, I asked the Lord for His message to my heart and life in my current afflictions. Then He graciously directed me to the beautiful hymn: "I'm Pressing on the upward way" in support of my sermon, titled: "The Faith of the woman with the issue of blood." In the Gospel record of Mat. 9:20-22; Mar. 5:25-34; and Luke 8:43-47. I am inspired and Blessed to read the testimonies from the Saints around the world. God Bless you all in the Name of Jesus!

Wonderful, encouraging hymn based on Philippians 3:14: "I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus" (KJV). I believe this hymn is more commonly known as 'Higher Ground'. Praise Jesus!

I am considering using this song at a going away meeting for a sister who has been here serving 10 yrs in our locality and is moving on to another locality. I hope this song would encourage her as she moves to higher ground.

Hello I am from Hamilton also! Are you in the Lord's recovery? He is so rich and so full . This hymn gives me the assurance that I am on higher ground where the enemy and the world cannot touch me. Praise the Lord!

This song is my inspiration. I go to sleep and wake up with this song on my lips and in my heart. It inspires me to move on through hard times. I don't know what it does to others but it helps me go through life believing that there is a higher ground that I belong on and that one day I will surely be there. I cry whenever, I sing this song because it means a lot more to me than just a hymn.

To be in the spirit is the key, the secret. In the spirit we will experience many wonderful things of Christ because we have crossed the Jordan and entered into Canaan. When we are in the spirit, we are in the rest, and we are in the Holy of Holies. Therefore, we must always renounce the natural man, the outer man. For example, many times in the Lord's work I was tempted by the enemy to quarrel with others. On those occasions I felt that my reason was right, that the case was mine, and that I had the doctrine to support me. Yet while I was trying to speak, something deep within restricted me and stopped me. In order to go along with that deep feeling, I had to drop my quarreling. Consequently, it seemed that I had nothing to say. But I can testify that every time I went along with the spirit, there was victory. If we take care of our spirit, the mighty One in our spirit will be our strength. We will be transcendent and victorious over many things. When we come to the meetings, we will come with many items of Christ to contribute, either in prayer, singing, giving a testimony, or speaking a short word. Philippians 4:13 says, "I am able to do all things in Him who empowers me." But where does Christ empower us? He empowers us in our spirit. Our mind is the stronghold and the open gate for the enemy, but our spirit is the base for the Lord to do His work. Thus, when we go along with the mind, we are defeated, even though we may be doing something good. But if we go along with the spirit, we will be victorious. We will be on a high mountain, on higher ground, and, in the words of a hymn, "on Canaan's tableland" (Hymns, #396). We will be in the heavens and will be transcendent.
