Now it is the Lord;
Once it was the feeling,
Now it is His Word;
Once His gift I wanted,
Now, the Giver own;
Once I sought for healing,
Now Himself alone.
Only Christ I’ll sing;
Everything is in Christ,
And Christ is everything.
Now ’tis perfect trust;
Once a half salvation,
Now the uttermost;
Once ’twas ceaseless holding,
Now He holds me fast;
Once ’twas constant drifting,
Now my anchor’s cast.
Now ’tis trustful prayer;
Once ’twas anxious caring,
Now He has the care;
Once ’twas what I wanted,
Now what Jesus says;
Once ’twas constant asking,
Now ’tis ceaseless praise.
His it hence shall be;
Once I tried to use Him,
Now He uses me;
Once the pow’r I wanted,
Now the Mighty One;
Once for self I labored,
Now for Him alone.
Now I know He’s mine;
Once my lamps were dying,
Now they brightly shine;
Once for death I waited,
Now His coming hail;
And my hopes are anchored
Safe within the veil.

“Once ‘twas constant asking… now ‘tis ceaseless praise. ”
Zechariah 10:1 says "Ask rain of Jehovah. At the time of spring rain, Of Jehovah who makes the lightning , And He will give them showers of rain, To everyone herbage in the field."
"Rain" in the Bible signifies blessings. Hallelujah, the Bible tells us that if we ask God for blessing, He will give to us showers of blessings! But for many people, myself included, we usually hold onto this old concept that "blessings" are the good things and material riches the Lord will provide for us.
But... blessing is a PERSON! Rain from above is actually God Himself coming down to us to be our joy and satisfaction. So if we ASK the Lord for blessing, He will give Himself to us to be everything we need as the reality of our blessing!! Hallelujah that the blessings is a Person. He waters us and causes us to be refreshed and to grow!
Moment by moment, the Lord is waiting for us to ASK him, so that He may give Himself to us as our life & our everything.

"But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.
Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ.." - Philippians 3:7. 8

We are no longer the "once" people but we are "now" people

The fundamental difference between this person’s former self and now (“once... , now”), is simply entering into a full trust in Jesus. I am still in the “once”. Despite my clear understanding mentally that Jesus must live the overcoming life in and for me, I still think I have to contribute. I have not entered fully into complete trust. This is the same trust the writer of Hebrews mentions when he talks about having boldness and confidence. All these “onces” are just works of the flesh, trying to please God, when Jesus has already done it all, and he has become our sabbath that we can rest in him. About a year ago, my computer failed and I handed it over to my IT person whom I greatly trust. I knew he would figure it out. Right then, the spirit spoke to me: “you’re very relaxed! ” I said “yes Lord”. He said “how come? ” I said because I know Mike will take care of this problem. He said: “how nice. And he will. But he’s a human being solving a man-made problem. I am God, who knows you in every way. Why don’t you trust me in the same way with your life? ” “Why don’t you relax and let me do everything for you. Just like Mike I am both willing and able. ” “I said wrote Lord, you’re right. I really need to let it all go into your hands”. Now I wish I could say that from that day on, I just let it all go into his wonder-working hands. I see it. But I don’t DO it. Lord, give us all that utter confidence and abandon of ourselves into your hands. This can only happen by YOUR faith and your power. Amen. And use it to bring a mighty revival into our land.
The person who lived as the “once” is living under the law, and will never be able to please God. They may not realize this. But you know it because you find yourself striving and tired at the end of the day. This is me very often. The person who lives as the “now” is living under grace. That’s what Grace looks like. Utter abandon into God. Like John sleeping on Jesus’ breast, just being loved.
