1
God be with you till we meet again;
By His counsels guide, uphold you,
With His sheep in love enfold you;
God be with you till we meet again.
By His counsels guide, uphold you,
With His sheep in love enfold you;
God be with you till we meet again.
Till we meet, till we meet,
Till we meet at Jesus’ feet;
Till we meet, till we meet,
God be with you till we meet again.
Till we meet at Jesus’ feet;
Till we meet, till we meet,
God be with you till we meet again.
2
God be with you till we meet again!
’Neath His wings protecting hide you,
Daily manna still provide you;
God be with you till we meet again!
’Neath His wings protecting hide you,
Daily manna still provide you;
God be with you till we meet again!
3
God be with you till we meet again!
When life’s perils thick confound you,
Put His arms unfailing round you;
God be with you till we meet again!
When life’s perils thick confound you,
Put His arms unfailing round you;
God be with you till we meet again!
4
God be with you till we meet again!
Keep love’s banner floating o’er you,
Smite death’s threatening wave before you;
God be with you till we meet again!
Keep love’s banner floating o’er you,
Smite death’s threatening wave before you;
God be with you till we meet again!

This song came to me today while reading Psalm 119:1-24. God be with you till we meet again. Brothers and Sisters, let us pray for souls and share the Gospel of Christ that others know of God’s goodness, repent of sin and follow Christ to live in His way. Then the words of this song will ring true: till we meet again (in Heaven).

A lyric of benediction, born at the moment for the need of the great “Society of Christian Endeavor, ” and now adopted into the Christian song-service throughout the Christian world. The author, Rev. Jeremiah Eames Rankin, D. D. was born in Thornton, N. H. , Jan. 2, 1828. He graduated from Middlebury College, VT. , in 1848, and labored as a Congregational Pastor for more than thirty years. He was president of Howard University, Washington, D. C. for thirteen years. Besides the “Parting Hymn, ” he wrote various practical works and religious essays. He died in 1904.
The Tune
As in a thousand other partnerships of hymns and musicians, Dr. Rankin was blessed by his composer. The tune is a symphony of hearts – – subdued at first, but then breaking into a chorus strong with uplifting hope It is a farewell with a spiritual message in it. The author, William Gould was born in Finesville,
N. J. , October 5, 1832. He died in Phillipsburg, N. J. Sept. 26, 1896. William was a soldier in the Civil War and an able writer as well as a composer. For sometime, he was editor of the High Bridge Gazette, and music was more of a vocation than a profession. He wrote the melody to Dr. Ranking’s hymn in 1880, Prof. J. W. Bischoff supplied the harmony, and the tune was first published in Gospel Bells the same year.

Was just watching on TV the Nigeria Army playing this Song at the arrival of the body of the late former Chief of Army staff of Nigeria, at the Air Force wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja for the final burial rites.
I shed a tear, remembering that, one day, I shall also be wheeled like this to be buried.
As a Catholic, this is one of the burial hyms we often sing.
May the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace! 🙏🙏🙏
