I must tell Jesus all of my trials; I cannot bear these burdens alone; In my distress He kindly will help me; He ever loves and cares for His own.
I must tell Jesus! I must tell Jesus! I cannot bear my burdens alone; I must tell Jesus! I must tell Jesus! Jesus can help me, Jesus alone.
2
I must tell Jesus all of my troubles; He is a kind, compassionate Friend; If I but ask Him, He will deliver, And in my griefs with me He will blend.
I must tell Jesus! I must tell Jesus! I cannot bear my burdens alone; I must tell Jesus! I must tell Jesus! Jesus can help me, Jesus alone.
3
Tempted and tried I need a great Savior, One who can help my burdens to bear; I must tell Jesus, I must tell Jesus; He all my cares and sorrows will share,
I must tell Jesus! I must tell Jesus! I cannot bear my burdens alone; I must tell Jesus! I must tell Jesus! Jesus can help me, Jesus alone.
4
O how the world to evil allures me! O how my heart is tempted to sin! I must tell Jesus; He will enable Over the world the vic’try to win.
I must tell Jesus! I must tell Jesus! I cannot bear my burdens alone; I must tell Jesus! I must tell Jesus! Jesus can help me, Jesus alone.
I sing this song always especially when I am down spiritually and storms seems over-raging. The song always revive and restore my confidence. I love to sing it so much combining it with the great physician is now here: especially in the night hours. Yes I must tell Jesus

This hymn is so deeply touching to all of the Lord's people because it conveys two very deep realizations: 1) we cannot do anything in ourselves; 2) we MUST rely fully on our precious, capable, caring, and loving Savior in a most desperate way, that's why we MUST tell Jesus.

Grew up in a Baptist church some 60 years ago and haven’t sung this hymn ever since. God put this song into my spirit today and I came across your web page and heard it. I love the slow pace!! As I listen it brought me to tears to be reminded of my goal. Give Jesus my cares because He cares for me! So relevant now than ever. Thank you for having this on line!!

This song was very comforting it's special I lost my husband May 2023 and my JESUS has been my comforter ever since. Even when I wanted to leave the world He was right there saying it's not your time. Thank You Jesus

Elisha Albright Hoffman was born May 7, 1839, in Orwigsburg, Pennsylvania to a minister named Francis Hoffman. At a young age, Elisha accepted Christ as his Savior. He attended the Philadelphia public schools, studied science, and then studied the classics at Union Seminary at the Evangelical Association. When he was 24, the Civil War had been raging for two years, and he enlisted as a Private in the Union Army on July 9, 1863 with Company A, 47th Infantry Regiment, Pennsylvania. He was discharged just over a month later on August 14, 1863, a couple years before the war ended.
About 1866, Elisha married Susan M Orwig, he was about 26 and she was about 22. He worked for the Evangelical Association Publishing House in Cleveland, Ohio, for 11 years. He was ordained by the Presbyterian Church in 1873, at the age of 34. Two years later in 1876, his wife, Susan died, leaving him with three young boys. He was never formally trained in music, but he wrote over 2, 000 hymns, providing both the words and the tune for the most of them. He assisted in compiling and editing 50 song books!
Some of these hymns he wrote are as follows:
“Are You Washed in the Blood, ” words
“Christ for Sin Atonement Made, ” words & music
“Down at the Cross, ” words
“Glory to His Name, ” words
“Have Thine Own Way Lord. ” words
“I Must Tell Jesus, ” words & music

Perfect hymn
In my dream before my father could die came to me and said son tell your troubles to Jesus you will be relieved.
And we joined in this hymn singing every stanzas little did I know that my father had informed the rest of the family to sing this hymn to send him off I ended up breaking because it was the same hymn in the dream. The dream got me when I was far at my work place yet father was at home at night as I reported on duty a call from my niece that father is gone made me recall this very hymn.
