1
O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast,
And our eternal home.
Our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast,
And our eternal home.
2
Under the shadow of Thy throne
Thy saints have dwelt secure;
Sufficient is Thine arm alone,
And our defence is sure.
Thy saints have dwelt secure;
Sufficient is Thine arm alone,
And our defence is sure.
3
Before the hills in order stood,
Or earth received her frame,
From everlasting Thou art God,
To endless years the same.
Or earth received her frame,
From everlasting Thou art God,
To endless years the same.
4
A thousand ages in Thy sight
Are like an evening gone;
Short as the watch that ends the night
Before the rising sun.
Are like an evening gone;
Short as the watch that ends the night
Before the rising sun.
5
Time, like an ever-rolling stream,
Bears all its sons away;
They fly forgotten, as a dream
Dies at the opening day.
Bears all its sons away;
They fly forgotten, as a dream
Dies at the opening day.
6
O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Be Thou our guard while life shall last,
And our eternal home.
Our hope for years to come,
Be Thou our guard while life shall last,
And our eternal home.

I woke up on New Year’s Day with the words of this hymn sounding in my mind. How appropriate! God is our hope for the year/ years ahead and ‘our eternal home’.

The daily challenges of the past year have had a cumulative effect on many of us leaving many people both weary and wary. We are weary from the upsetting news that filled our screens every day and night for most of the last year. We are wary because we don't know what is ahead of us. But the good news is this, God is still in control.
This song ushers me into 2021 with the strength of hope. O God, our help in ages past, Our hope for years to come,

God is our present help in times of need. 2021 is a year of quick work. God will be rewarding consistency, obedience, commitment and dedication. God bless us all.
God will remain our hope for years to come.

This song helps me in my devotion. Reminds me of the need and benefits of dependence on God. It reminds of me of the guaranteed future of born again Christians. Loving and serving God is just amazing.

It's 31st December 2020. It's no mere coincidence that for a year as turbulent and peculiar as 2020 was, this particular hymnal was chosen for crossover service. God is our hope for years to come and our eternal hope. May his name be glorified forevermore🙏

We woke up at midnight to praise the Lord for 30 blissful years of marriage and this hymn came to mind as so relevant to our journey of three decades. It has been the Lord through thick and thin and we trust Him for the years ahead. We would like to condemn the evil we observed in that many hymns have been changed from the original lyrics; the sad thing is that the changes are so fundamental/material because they touch on basic bible doctrines. It took us knowing the original lyrics to find this one with the complete stanza and original lyrics. Others removed saints from the second stanza and removed two other stanza that talk about God as ageless and timeless. Indeed these are the end times. People will have a form of Godliness but deny the power thereof! 2 Timothy 3 vs 5

This hymn came to my mind during my devotion this morning. Looking back I could see how helpful the Lord had been to me and my family. Father Lord I will continue to cast all my burdens on you for you cares. Thank you Jesus

This hymn may have had its inspiration from Psalm 90. It reminds us of the brevity of life in comparison to eternity. Let's make our lives count today.
