1
O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast,
And our eternal home.
Our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast,
And our eternal home.
2
Under the shadow of Thy throne
Thy saints have dwelt secure;
Sufficient is Thine arm alone,
And our defence is sure.
Thy saints have dwelt secure;
Sufficient is Thine arm alone,
And our defence is sure.
3
Before the hills in order stood,
Or earth received her frame,
From everlasting Thou art God,
To endless years the same.
Or earth received her frame,
From everlasting Thou art God,
To endless years the same.
4
A thousand ages in Thy sight
Are like an evening gone;
Short as the watch that ends the night
Before the rising sun.
Are like an evening gone;
Short as the watch that ends the night
Before the rising sun.
5
Time, like an ever-rolling stream,
Bears all its sons away;
They fly forgotten, as a dream
Dies at the opening day.
Bears all its sons away;
They fly forgotten, as a dream
Dies at the opening day.
6
O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Be Thou our guard while life shall last,
And our eternal home.
Our hope for years to come,
Be Thou our guard while life shall last,
And our eternal home.

God is all we have. God is all we need. I recently lost my mom to cancer. We were best friends for four decades and spoke for hours every day. We have both walked with the Lord our entire lives and have minds and hearts full of the Word. The last month of her life, I spent 18 hours a day at her bedside, but barely said a word to her. She had many, many Christian visitors, but very few people said anything. She died surrounded by Godly people who loved her, but in human terms, she died alone. In the end, God is all we have. We must use every day - every moment of our loneliness to cultivate feeling and desiring and loving His presence because God is all we have. God is all we need. To Him be glory.

When I heard about the tragedy that happened in Connecticut, O Lord Our Help in Ages Past was the only song that I kept singing. I thank the writer of this song, it gives strength and console me in times of grieving.

God, Abraham, Isaac and Israel will forever remain our God! the pillar of this earth right with Him in His hands, this song of Isaac humbles me each time I listen to it and the words...in all may the earth keep praising You forever our God!
