At Calvary

1
Years I spent in vanity and pride,
Caring not my Lord was crucified,
Knowing not it was for me He died
  On Calvary.
  Mercy there was great, and grace was free;
Pardon there was multiplied to me;
There my burdened soul found liberty,
    At Calvary.
2
By God’s Word at last my sin I learned;
Then I trembled at the law I’d spurned,
Till my guilty soul imploring turned
  To Calvary.
3
Now I’ve giv’n to Jesus everything,
Now I gladly own Him as my King,
Now my raptured soul can only sing
  Of Calvary.
4
Oh, the love that drew salvation’s plan!
Oh, the grace that brought it down to man!
Oh, the mighty gulf that God did span
  At Calvary!

This morning this hymn popped into my mind & I tried to look it up in several different old denominational hymn books and it just was not there. I began to think I was wrong about the title being "At Calvary" so I found your website & thankfully the song was there. I remember back in the 1950's the strong presence of the Holy Spirit as my grandfather led the singing of this song back in a tiny wooden church building in Palatka Florida. This was a real blessing today as the warmth of the Holy Spirit continually brings me into the Father's presence.

Reminds me of the pit I once was, Never new of Christ sacrifice until His Word was imparted unto me. Sin does bring shame and ultimately death but Christ Definitely brings Life and Peace. Jeremiah 29:11

A person can only sing this with meaning pleasing to God if they repent and believe that Jesus took away their sins on the cross and rose again for them (Hebrews 11 verse 6, John 3 verse 16, 2 Corinthians 5 verse 11, 1 Peter 3 verse 18, the whole of 1 Corinthians - all in the New Tesrament, the latter being the resurrection chapter of the New Testament). And to prove threat they gave been born again and going to Heaven a person must tell other people the gospel (Romans 10 verse 9, Matthew 28 verses 19, 20).

And is because of God's great love for His people (John 3 verse 16, Titus 1 verse 2, Titus 3 verse 4, 5)! - note that all the New Testament letters (known as epistles) were written to born again Christians, and it is to them that these letters must be understood by God's Holy Spirit (1 Corinthiansc 2 verse 14).

Oh Calvary! The mountain that brought to me life in abundance, forgave my sins and cause me live in Liberty. My Lord Jesus paid it all. Grace flew like a river and I asked " How much can I pay? " Jesus answered ' I have given you for free. Thank God that even ' the poor me' now can swim in the splendour of God's loving kindness. Wake my brothers and sisters and honour the invitation to calvary. I appreciate the writer and the author for the compilation. God bless you.

Amen
