Will your anchor hold in the storms of life

1
Will your anchor hold in the storms of life,
When the clouds unfold their wings of strife?
When the strong tides lift, and the cables strain,
Will your anchor drift or firm remain?
  We have an anchor that keeps the soul
Stedfast and sure while the billows roll,
Fastened to the Rock which cannot move,
  Grounded firm and deep in the Savior’s love.
2
It is safely moored, ’twill the storm withstand,
For ’tis well secured by the Savior’s hand;
And the cables passed from His heart to mine,
Can defy the blast, through strength divine.
3
It will firmly hold in the straits of fear,
When the breakers have told the reef is near;
Though the tempest rave and the wild winds blow,
Not an angry wave shall our bark o’erflow.
4
It will surely hold in the floods of death,
When the waters cold chill our latest breath;
On the rising tide it can never fail,
While our hopes abide within the veil.

We are singing this at my mum's funeral on Wednesday 17th August. She was 90 years of age. This song was chosen by my two sons were boys brigade members for many years. We used to watch them march through the streets in their uniforms, what a wonderful sight and sound it was. No more I fear what a loss to the youth of today.

The Lord gave me a very precious gift a Loving Mother and Father who taught me the values of a Christian faith, through not just going to Church but the way they led their life, This Hymn reminds me of my parents especially at the end of their lives, their faith never once swayed. My dear Mother was promoted to glory on the 20 June with all her family around her as she peacefully slipped out of this mortal life for the Angels take her home, What a gift knowing the journey we are on, None of us know what twist and turns await us, happy or sad, easy of trying, but we do know that with the love of God he will hold us as a Father dose in his strong arms and keep us from stumbling.

I first learned this song at a boys school (Methodist ) in 1970s. In my local church we still sing this inspiration song. It always lifted my faith in the Lord when I sing or listen to it. Beside the word of God, whenever I face challenges in life it helps me.The truth is that victory has been won already for us. What is left is our faith to hook on Christ whenever challenges of this world face us. No matter how big the challenge may be, this song will tell you that you are a winner. If only you Still remain in Christ Jesus.

This morning devotion, the staff who lead the prayers raised this song at this critical moment of our organization. The song has lifted my faith in God and hope He will save my organization from sinking including the staff. I am weeping as I write this comment. God is in control. Amen. Please readers pray for me and my organization. We are Christians and work for a Christian organization.

The tune of this great hymn of the Church of Jesus has been ringing in my soul the last three days; it so intense and so real I started singing it during corporate prayer in our Friday night service at New Covenant Church International, Providence, RI. I visited this site today hoping to get the words of all the stanzas for use in Sunday AM service. Thanks to God for both the composer and those who labored to make available on the net. I am truly grateful. Bishop Q.

I learnt this tune in the Girls' Brigade. Now after 40 years, I can still remember how the Boys' Brigade sang it. The song sung with so much gusto remain in my memory to this day.

I agree with Jack and Margaret, I'm an officer in the Boys' Brigade and can't help but be uplifted whenever this is sung at Display or Enrolement services. The Motto Sure and Steadfast and this song both draw their inspiration from the KJV Bible, Hebrews 6:19.

This hymn is/was widely sung by the Boys' Brigade whose motto "Sure and Stedfast" comes from its powerful lyrics. There is nothing like hearing it sung by a throng of men and boys, with spirits lifted by the words and music.

This is an inspiration that is necessary for the soul. I have looked for this song for year and thanks to google, I have it now. It's words are so reasuring that one can win a war after singing it.

Sadly this wonderful old hymn is not in many modern hymn books - I'm taking the service at an Aged Care home tomorrow and I am following the lectionary for my message - This is the tune I have been humming and fits the "End Times" message so well in this very uncertain world that we live in.
