O Lord, Thy boundless love to me

NT428
1
O Lord, Thy boundless love to me
No thought can reach, no tongue declare;
Oh, knit my thankful heart to Thee,
And reign without a rival there;
Thine wholly, Thine alone I am;
Lord, with Thy love my heart inflame.
2
Oh, grant that nothing in my soul
May dwell but Thy pure love alone;
Oh, may Thy love possess me whole,
My joy, my treasure, and my crown;
All coldness from my heart remove;
May every act, word, thought, be love.
3
O Love, how cheering is Thy ray,
All pain before Thy presence flies;
Care, anguish, sorrow, melt away,
Where'er Thy healing beams arise;
Lord Jesus, nothing may I see,
And naught desire, or seek, but Thee.

Love the lyrics. Glad that it's been tuned to a new tune. Praise the Lord.

Btw, there's a 4th stance that's missing here.

4 This love unwearied I pursue

and dauntlessly to Thee aspire.

O may Thy love my hope renew,

burn in my soul like heav'nly fire.

And day and night, be all my care

to guard this sacred treasure there.

Brother Gebhardt's prayer from the 1600's is still so applicable today. "Knit... and reign" reminds me of the Apostle Paul's prayer in Ephesians 3. To counteract the temptations of the world and the self, we need a morning by morning "knitting" with the Lord both as the life-giving Spirit and as the shining, recalibrating Living Word.

As we open, the love, the Nearness and the dearness of our precious Lord Jesus will flood our heart, supplying us to live Christ in and for His Body.
