Master, speak! Thy servant heareth

E808 T808
1
Master, speak! Thy servant heareth,
  Waiting for Thy gracious word,
Longing for Thy voice that cheereth
  Master, let it now be heard.
I am list'ning, Lord, for Thee;
What hast Thou to say to me?
2
Often through my heart is pealing
  Many another voice than Thine,
Many an unwilled echo stealing
  From the walls of this Thy shrine.
Let Thy longed-for accents fall;
Master, speak! and silence all.
3
Master, speak! though least and lowest,
  Let me not unheard depart;
Master, speak! for oh, Thou knowest
  All the yearning of my heart.
Knowest all its truest need;
Speak! and make me blest indeed.
4
Master, speak! and make me ready,
  When Thy voice is truly heard,
With obedience glad and steady,
  Still to follow every word
I am listening, Lord, for Thee:
Master, speak, oh, speak to me!
5
Speak to me by name, O Master,
  Let me know it is to me;
Speak, that I may follow faster,
  With a step more firm and free,
Where the Shepherd leads the flock
In the shadow of the Rock!

This song was one of my favourite song through my childhood and teen days. Singing this song those days in Faith Tabernacle church choir made me to think about the young Samuel Ben-Elkanah living with the (Pastor) High Priest Eli and sleeping in the temple, and God came and spoke to him. And he answered; "Speak Lord, for thy servant heareth!" It was so edifying.

I first heard and sung this song when I was in my senior 1 in 2002 during our inter house music and dance competition.

It has been sang again in church today and it has truly revealed God's true will for my life. I am reminded to listen and follow through His voice. Steadiness is when you obey in what He alone tells you to do.

I pray we all live in obedience to the voice of God and we will celebrate His goodness.

God bless you all.

I first saw and sang this song when I was in my teens in a church fellowship, then not born again but the words stuck to my spirit and would reverberate in my heart frequently. I could not find it for years. Over 35 years after and now born again, the longing had not ceased. Today, just occurred to me to search the Internet and boooooooooooooooooommm!

Thank you so much; what a treasure this song is to my soul at this time. God bless you all, in Jesus Christ name.

Today, this Hymn just fell in my spirit as I am meditating on my Message to preach tomorrow. It totally consumed my heart, that I had to go to my old Methodist Hymn Book to get all the words and sang it over and over again. Master please speak to me tomorrow ; I am waiting for your precious word.

Thank you Lord Jesus.

I just want this to sink:

Speak to me by name, O Master,

Let me know it is to me;

Speak, that I may follow faster,

With a step more firm and free,

Where the Shepherd leads the flock

In the shadow of the Rock!

"Often thru my heart is pealing many another voice than Thine,... Master speak and silence all". When temptations and the attractions of this world drown your voice, please speak and silence them my Master.

I really miss decades when these tunes were sung regularly.
