This hymn has been running through my mind over the last week and is giving me great peace. I pity those growing up in church today that will never benefit from the rich heritage of the hymns of the previous generation. Lots of great music today, sure it's great, but I really think that we've suffered a loss in abandoning the hymnal with hymns that tell a story.

As I am writing this comment I am in a difficult situation but after listening to this hymn I cried so much not because of what am passing through, but because I have a dear Friend in Jesus who is ready to carry all my burden. This is such a great reminder of how we need to view God. After all, we were originally made for walking with Him in the garden; and now because of what Jesus has done on the cross we are brought near once more. Not only is He the closest, dearest, and most faithful friend but also He has made us even as He is: a new creation. Everything good or noteworthy in my life is either because of the work He has done or is doing. I used to think that I could be good on my own, but now when I see anything good in myself I know it is Him working in me.
