Begone, unbelief,
My Savior is near,
And for my relief
Will surely appear;
By prayer let me wrestle,
And He will perform;
With Christ in the vessel,
I smile at the storm.
My Savior is near,
And for my relief
Will surely appear;
By prayer let me wrestle,
And He will perform;
With Christ in the vessel,
I smile at the storm.

Though dark be my way,
Since He is my Guide,
'Tis mine to obey,
'Tis His to provide;
Though cisterns be broken,
And creatures all fail,
The word He hath spoken
Shall surely prevail.
Since He is my Guide,
'Tis mine to obey,
'Tis His to provide;
Though cisterns be broken,
And creatures all fail,
The word He hath spoken
Shall surely prevail.

His love, in time past,
Forbids me to think
He'll leave me at last
In trouble to sink:
Each sweet Ebenezer
I have in review
Confirms His good pleasure
To help me quite through.
Forbids me to think
He'll leave me at last
In trouble to sink:
Each sweet Ebenezer
I have in review
Confirms His good pleasure
To help me quite through.

Why should I complain
Of want or distress,
Temptation or pain?
He told me no less;
The heirs of salvation,
I know from His Word,
Through much tribulation
Must follow their Lord.
Of want or distress,
Temptation or pain?
He told me no less;
The heirs of salvation,
I know from His Word,
Through much tribulation
Must follow their Lord.

How bitter that cup
No heart can conceive,
Which He drank quite up,
That sinners might live!
His way was much rougher
And darker than mine;
Did Christ, my Lord, suffer,
And shall I repine?
No heart can conceive,
Which He drank quite up,
That sinners might live!
His way was much rougher
And darker than mine;
Did Christ, my Lord, suffer,
And shall I repine?
6
Since all that I meet
Shall work for my good,
The bitter is sweet,
The medicine, food;
Though painful at present,
'Twill cease before long,
And then, oh, how pleasant
The conqueror's song!
Shall work for my good,
The bitter is sweet,
The medicine, food;
Though painful at present,
'Twill cease before long,
And then, oh, how pleasant
The conqueror's song!

Yes Lord I believe everything I am going through shall work for my good in Jesus Mighty Name. It's always darker before the dawn. Do not be discouraged, keep on trusting, He will not leave you, He will surely answer my prayers in Jesus Mighty Name. Praise God!!! Jesus Never Fails!!! Thanks for uploading this song. God bless you all.

The root sin is unbelief.. When Eve followed the devil's temptation, and disobeyed God her creator, she doubted God would punish her. She doubted that He meant what age said when he banned her from eating of the fruit of the tree of knowledge. In doubting God, she disbelieved God, and the human race has reaped the consequences ever since.
Also in John chapter 16, Jesus said that when the Holy Spirit is come He would convict the world of sin 'because they believed not on me'.

His way was much rougher and darker than mine; did Christ, my Lord, suffer and shall I repine? How dare I complain and what hope during the dark times?!
Tema, Accra, Ghana
The lyrics gives me hope in Christ Jesus.

Definitely a great hymn of comfort but verse 5 is left out of modern versions of the hymn. The reminder that 'His way was much darker and rougher than ours' should always be before us. According to my late mother one of the crowning verses of this hymn has been left out!

The Yoruba translation of this hymn carries such a huge meaning and weight that you would prefer singing it in Yoruba language. There are some words in Yoruba language that lose their meaning and weight when translated to English. That's why when I want to pray alone, I switch to Yoruba. This hymn, I sing anytime I am plunged into unbelief by any situation. With Christ in the vessel, I smile at the storm.

It's a hymn that gives us so much confidence and hope that irrespective of the challenges we face in life God still has better things for us.
