I am Thine, O Lord, I have heard Thy voice

1
I am Thine, O Lord, I have heard Thy voice,
  And it told Thy love to me;
But I long to rise in the arms of faith,
  And be closer drawn to Thee.

Draw me nearer, nearer, blessed Lord,
  To the cross where Thou hast died;
Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer, blessed Lord,
    To Thy precious, bleeding side.
2
Consecrate me now to Thy service, Lord,
  By the pow'r of grace divine;
Let my soul look up with a steadfast hope,
  And my will be lost in Thine.
3
O the pure delight of a single hour
  That before Thy throne I spend,
When I kneel in prayer, and with Thee, my God,
  I commune as friend with friend!
4
There are depths of love that I yet may know
  Ere Thee face to face I see;
There are heights of joy that I yet may reach
  Ere I rest in peace with Thee.

The song is so inspiring and challenges me to get closer to God more than ever before. May everyone who sings this song understand and apply every word in the song to his life. To God be the glory.

It feels like this hymn was written for just me! Every line of the hymn expresses my heart's constant desire. God bless the writers of hymns.

Just got back into my office this evening after a tiring day out on the field talking to customers, and stumbled on this site as I searched the internet for this song I have known from childhood. My heart melted into the symphony and my spirit embraced the melody because of the power of the words of this song. What a cry for ever - dwelling grace in the presence of our Lord God Almighty. God bless you Sis. Fanny. It's good to know you are in the bossom of our Lord. Thank You Lord for this website.

Thanks for the access to this song. All honor be unto God for giving Fanny this song and thanks to her for sharing it with the world. It is awesome to be reminded that in this world of chaos Jesus has chosen me to be His own. I have heard and have responded to His call through repentance, baptism in water and the infilling of the Holy Ghost. I am His and He is mine. Very soothing to the soul. Working and listening to this song brings me peace. Love the fact that the song is replayed and I do not have to keep returning to click replay. Turn it on leave. Beautiful.

I am a Catholic priest and choirmaster, but I have loved Fanny Crosby's hymns from my youth. I have always been moved by the story of her reply to someone who asked, if she had her life over, whether she would choose to see. As I remember her reply: "No, sir, I would choose to be blind; for the first thing I shall see, when I get to heaven, is the face of Him who died for me." Her blindness played a significant part in her hymn lyrics. For example, in Blessed Assurance: "Visions of rapture burst on my sight, or To God be the Glory: "...our wonder, our rapture, when Jesus we see!" And, of course, the present hymn: "...Ere thee face to face I see." What a love for the Divine Saviour she had, and to how many people has that love been communicated through her profound lyrics and the melodies of WH Doane.

Fanny wrote this favorite hymn in Cincinatti, OH. She was visiting her friend and collaborator, William H. Doane, in his home. The sun was setting, and their conversation turned to the nearness of God. Crosby was touched by their talk and wrote the words of this hymn before she retired that night. Doane added the music in the morning. It may be that the "friend to friend" communion in the 3rd stanza is an allusion to Crosby's fine friendship with Doane. - Great Songs of Faith by Brown & Norton

I love most of sister Fanny Crosby's songs. She did a great job. Surely she is in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ forever. I am Thine O Lord forever. Thank You for saving my soul. You are amazing, perfect and awesome! I love You Lord. Thanks for this wonderful website.

Sometimes you just want to hear a traditional hymn. This site is a blessing because often this is the only place you find those selections. Thank you!
