Will your anchor hold in the storms of life

1
Will your anchor hold in the storms of life,
When the clouds unfold their wings of strife?
When the strong tides lift, and the cables strain,
Will your anchor drift or firm remain?

We have an anchor that keeps the soul
Stedfast and sure while the billows roll,
Fastened to the Rock which cannot move,
  Grounded firm and deep in the Savior's love.
2
It is safely moored, 'twill the storm withstand,
For 'tis well secured by the Savior's hand;
And the cables passed from His heart to mine,
Can defy the blast, through strength divine.
3
It will firmly hold in the straits of fear,
When the breakers have told the reef is near;
Though the tempest rave and the wild winds blow,
Not an angry wave shall our bark o'erflow.
4
It will surely hold in the floods of death,
When the waters cold chill our latest breath;
On the rising tide it can never fail,
While our hopes abide within the veil.

Mitaire Ikpen

Abuja, FCT, Nigeria

My Mum, Mrs. Eunice Eziregbe Ikpen will always sing this song when we were growing up and I was so familiar with the tune without really knowing the words then. Growing up to know the lyrics, becoming a father of children and needing God's help to go through the storms of life, I find the song lifting my soul to the heavens and giving me confidence to face the challenges of life because indeed in Jesus, "We have an Anchor that keeps the soul...". The hymn itself is self assuring and soul reassuring, and I can be sure to have a great day if I start my day with this song. May God bless the composer and may the song minister to more souls like it did to Mummy and me.

This song is the recipe for my flagging spirit. I am so thankful that Almighty God had planted it in my thought at this point in time to help boost my flagging spirit to restore my hope in Him. It came at the right time and the right moment when I need encouragement.

This song just came to my mind again this evening... It has been a song of reassurance...I am so glad that Jesus did not leave me to journey through this world alone.

Still a fresh hymn of hope when hopelessness seems to take centre stage. Amen.

Like Torrey, I was still in bed this morning, when I started singing this song starting with the chorus, I grew singing it in church as well, but for some of the words in the verses. But I remember the 1st line in the 1st verse, asking the question: "will your anchor holds in the storms of life". Because often times we get so discouraged, when we're going through a rough patch in our Christian walk, and sometimes it get so intense when those we fellowship with in church starts acting funny and cold towards us. But l'm encourage this morning of The anchor that keeps my soul. The LORD JESUS CHRIST, Is my anchor. Praise The LORD.

Torrey Stensvad

I woke up this morning and started singing this hymn from memory. I haven't sang it in years so I had to look up the verses , which I could not recall. I grew up singing this in church, but my wife who also grew up in church did not know the song. What an encouraging hymn. Sometimes my soul drifts for a season. When I focus on Jesus, I have an anchor! Praise God for His steadfast love!

I feel fulfilled when I listen or watch the video clip. I sang it at the burial service of my late parents. It has kept me strong.
