1
Will your anchor hold in the storms of life,
When the clouds unfold their wings of strife?
When the strong tides lift, and the cables strain,
Will your anchor drift or firm remain?
When the clouds unfold their wings of strife?
When the strong tides lift, and the cables strain,
Will your anchor drift or firm remain?
We have an anchor that keeps the soul
Stedfast and sure while the billows roll,
Fastened to the Rock which cannot move,
Grounded firm and deep in the Savior's love.
Stedfast and sure while the billows roll,
Fastened to the Rock which cannot move,
Grounded firm and deep in the Savior's love.
2
It is safely moored, 'twill the storm withstand,
For 'tis well secured by the Savior's hand;
And the cables passed from His heart to mine,
Can defy the blast, through strength divine.
For 'tis well secured by the Savior's hand;
And the cables passed from His heart to mine,
Can defy the blast, through strength divine.
3
It will firmly hold in the straits of fear,
When the breakers have told the reef is near;
Though the tempest rave and the wild winds blow,
Not an angry wave shall our bark o'erflow.
When the breakers have told the reef is near;
Though the tempest rave and the wild winds blow,
Not an angry wave shall our bark o'erflow.
4
It will surely hold in the floods of death,
When the waters cold chill our latest breath;
On the rising tide it can never fail,
While our hopes abide within the veil.
When the waters cold chill our latest breath;
On the rising tide it can never fail,
While our hopes abide within the veil.

A song that teaches the test of time and patience.

A great favourite; one that's not sung often enough. The robust words remind me of the strength and assurance that we have in Christ. Its a touch-stone for me, as I've been plagued with insecurity all my life, making that reminder all the more important to me. Just one question - why did you miss the last verse off?
"Will your eyes behold through the gathering night, the city of gold, the harbour bright? Will you anchor fast by the heavenly shore, with the storms all past, to sail no more?"

Hebrews 6:19-20 “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where Jesus, who went before us, has entered in our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.”

Powerful and everlasting.

It is in the book of Hebrews that the writer writes that Jesus Christ, the mediator of a BETTER covenant, is the person who is the ANCHOR of our faith, as well as the author and finisher of our faith.
It is often said that the theme of Hebrews us that the new covenant is BETTER than the Old covenant, the key to the theme being the word BETTER.

What a great song. The lyrics are so real, encouraging and thought provoking. I just can stop singing it to myself. God bless the composer/writer.

The music and the lyrics inspire my soul. The ONLY ANCHOR which can secure our lives in this turbulent world is Jesus Christ.
