My faith has found a resting place

Assurance and Joy of Salvation Secured by Divine Provisions

English330

My faith has found a resting place,
Not in device nor creed;
I trust the Ever-living One,
His wounds for me shall plead.

I need no other argument,
I need no other plea;
It is enough that Jesus died,
And that He died for me.

Enough for me that Jesus saves,
This ends my fear and doubt;
A sinful soul I come to Him,
He'll never cast me out.

My heart is leaning on the Word,
The written Word of God,
Salvation by my Savior's name,
Salvation through His blood.

My great Physician heals the sick,
The lost He came to save;
For me His precious blood He shed,
For me His life He gave.

It is indeed enough that Jesus died. His death ends my fear. His word gives me strength. I need no other plea and there is no more argument. It is not contestible it is finished, it is done and settled. Praise my mighty King.

Device means some type of program or scheme, like following a check list. Our faith isn't founded on following a denomination or a particular way of doing things. We aren't secure because we have daily devotions, or pray a certain way or a certain number of times, or (fill in the blank. ) We are secure because Jesus died and His death was sufficient for each of us.

At my lowest ebb, especially when the enemy comes to attack me with the danger of my past errors, this hymn lifts my spirit.

I bless God for the inspiration.

The gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is not a rhetoric scheme devised to evoke emotional responses in people. IT'S THE TRUTH THE WAY AND LIFE. It's not a device.

Can someone explain to me what "device" means in this hymn?

Thanks.

Yes, the only way, the Truth and light, no one comes to the Father only through Him.
