I know not what awaits me,
God kindly veils my eyes,
And o’er each step of my onward way
He makes new scenes to rise;
And every joy He sends me comes
A sweet and glad surprise.
God kindly veils my eyes,
And o’er each step of my onward way
He makes new scenes to rise;
And every joy He sends me comes
A sweet and glad surprise.
Where He may lead me I’ll follow,
My trust in Him repose;
And every hour in perfect peace,
I’ll sing, “He knows, He knows”,
I’ll sing, “He knows, He knows.”
My trust in Him repose;
And every hour in perfect peace,
I’ll sing, “He knows, He knows”,
I’ll sing, “He knows, He knows.”

One step I see before me,
’Tis all I need to see,
The light of heaven more brightly shines
When earth’s illusions flee;
And sweetly through the silence comes,
His loving, “Trust in Me!”
’Tis all I need to see,
The light of heaven more brightly shines
When earth’s illusions flee;
And sweetly through the silence comes,
His loving, “Trust in Me!”

Oh, blissful lack of wisdom,
’Tis blessed not to know;
He holds me with His own right hand,
And will not let me go,
And lulls my troubled soul to rest
In Him who loves me so.
’Tis blessed not to know;
He holds me with His own right hand,
And will not let me go,
And lulls my troubled soul to rest
In Him who loves me so.

So on I go not knowing;
I would not if I might;
I’d rather walk in the dark with God
Than go alone in the light;
I’d rather walk by faith with Him
Than go alone by sight.
I would not if I might;
I’d rather walk in the dark with God
Than go alone in the light;
I’d rather walk by faith with Him
Than go alone by sight.

Oftentimes, we prefer to have a concrete direction of where to go , what’s next, what’s the leading!? Everything needs to be planned and arranged orderly but the Lord’s way is different!
Not obvious but it’s there and that is His presence. It is not easy to follow Him but worth the price!
May He teach us more how to know His leading and be able to follow it whatever the cost is!

I enjoyed what the brother shared in the previous comment. It really takes time to learn to simply trust in Him. We may often be shortsighted and get frustrated by the things we see. Yet He knows more than we do and His light dispels all anxiety. Lord, may we learn to seek You and enjoy You as light.

I do appreciate saints' experience of the Lord of trusting Him and following Him not knowing, as Abraham did. Thru this hymn I could set my way to learn these experiences. It's so precious. Till this time of my life (35) I mostly did things with thorough planning and analyzing as Paul "counted all things as loss" (Phil. 3:7-8). He has counted (compared, calculated), he was sober in those things, leaving, repudiating religious and all other things as nothing, dogs' food.
But here goes the other dimension of knowing Christ, where I go in the light, that light being God Himself. Especially those lines struck me:
I go not knowing;
I would not if I might;
I’d rather walk in the dark with God
Than go alone in the light;
As an engineer I need to learn things first, I need to know things related to the matter, yet now it comes "I would not [know] if I might" - seems no need to spend precious time for getting knowledge if I'm in Him, abiding in this sweet union of lifes; "and every hour in perfect peace". Lord, keep me experiencing You in this way, trusting You to the uttermost, getting rid of my anxious thoughts. Heading not to the knowledge but to You.
