1
You are our letter, inscribed in our hearts,
You are our letter, inscribed in our hearts,
Known and read by all men.
You are our letter, inscribed in our hearts,
Known and read by all men.
2
You are a letter of Christ ministered by us,
Inscribed not with ink but with the Spirit of God,
The living God.
Inscribed not with ink but with the Spirit of God,
The living God.
But whenever their heart
Turns to the Lord,
The veil is taken,
Taken away.
And the Lord is the Spirit;
And where the Spirit of the Lord is,
There is freedom,
There is freedom!
Turns to the Lord,
The veil is taken,
Taken away.
And the Lord is the Spirit;
And where the Spirit of the Lord is,
There is freedom,
There is freedom!
3
You are our letter, inscribed in our hearts,
You are our letter, inscribed in our hearts,
known and read by all men.
You are our letter, inscribed in our hearts,
known and read by all men.
4
You are a letter of Christ ministered by us,
Inscribed not with ink but with the Spirit of God,
The living God.
Inscribed not with ink but with the Spirit of God,
The living God.
But we all with unveiled face,
Beholding and reflecting
Like a mirror
The glory of the Lord,
Are being transformed into
The same image
From glory to glory,
Glory to glory!
Beholding and reflecting
Like a mirror
The glory of the Lord,
Are being transformed into
The same image
From glory to glory,
Glory to glory!

This hymn is a sweet mingling of verses from 2nd Corinthians chapter 3. Verse 2 says "You are our letter, inscribed in our hearts, known and read by all men,... Note 2 of the Recovery Version Bible says "The Believers were the fruit of the apostles' labor, commending the apostles and their ministry to others. Thus, they became the apostles' living letter of commendation, written by the apostles with the indwelling Christ as the content in every part of their inner being.
The first chorus is verbatim from chapter 3 verses 16-17. The second chorus is verse 18 verbatim with the omission of the end of the verse "even as from the Lord's Spirit." Hymns like this are especially useful in equipping believers with God's living Word.
