Jesus, my Savior, to Bethlehem came

1
Jesus, my Savior, to Bethlehem came,
Laid in a manger to sorrow and shame;
O it was wonderful, blest be His name,
  Seeking for me, for me:
  Seeking for me, for me,
  Seeking for me, for me;
O it was wonderful, blest be His name,
  Seeking for me, for me.
2
Jesus, my Savior, on Calvary’s tree
Paid the great debt, and my soul He set free;
O it was wonderful—how could it be?
  Dying for me, for me!
  Dying for me, for me,
  Dying for me, for me;
O it was wonderful—how could it be?
  Dying for me, for me!
3
Jesus, my Savior, the same as of old,
While I was wand’ring in darkness and cold,
Gently and long did He plead with my soul,
  Calling for me, for me!
  Calling for me, for me,
  Calling for me, for me;
Gently and long did He plead with my soul,
  Calling for me, for me!
4
Jesus, my Savior, shall come from on high.
Sweet is the promise as weary years fly:
O I shall see Him descend from the sky,
  Coming for me, for me!
  Coming for me, for me,
  Coming for me, for me;
O I shall see Him descend from the sky,
  Coming for me, for me!
(Repeat the last two lines of each stanza for chorus)

I learned the song as a young girl in the Luo language as I attended church with my grandmother and later sang it in high school as part of worship. And today it ministered to my soul just as it had touched me in the early years. Blessed be the Lord who came and died for my sins. It is indeed wonderful

I went to a Quaker (Friends) high school where we'd sing hymns in a hymn book called Golden Bells. This one song nags at my soul in such a beautiful way, often.

I just finished reading my Sabbath school lesson talking about God's mission plan to save us by sending Jesus to be born and to die to save us and come again the second time to take us to our Heavenly Home! This song is climactic of Redemption story!! Glory to the Lord our Creator 🙌❤️🙏

Oh my gosh is all I can say. I first heard this song sung by a choir in our village in western Kenya probably mid to late 80s. The choir used to practice daily and they sang this song daily. The church was right next to our compound so I heard this tune repeatedly. The song registered in my heart and memory even though I didn't know the lyrics. Recently while watching youtube I heard a pastor leading his congregation through some old school songs and heard him singing the song. I then found out that the song's title was Yesu Zamani Bethlehemu. Took me some googling and searching through hymnal. net to find it. God bless the composer of this song. I suppose the lyrics speak to my soul because the tune stayed in my memory for over 30 years without me knowing the lyrics. I've occasionally hummed to the song in my heart but I never imagined I'd ever find words to the song. Glory be God. The village choir that sung this song was practicing for a singing competition that was usually held every year around Christmas.
