Lord, speak to me, that I may speak

Cs851 E903
1
Lord, speak to me, that I may speak
In living echoes of Thy tone;
As Thou hast sought, so let me seek
Thy erring children lost and lone.
2
O lead me, Lord, that I may lead
The wandering and the wavering feet;
O feed me, Lord, that I may feed
Thy hungering ones with manna sweet.
3
O strengthen me, that while I stand
Firm on the rock, and strong in Thee,
I may stretch out a loving hand
To wrestlers with the troubled sea.
4
O teach me, Lord, that I may teach
The precious things Thou dost impart;
And wing my words, that they may reach
The hidden depths of many a heart.
5
O give Thine own sweet rest to me,
That I may speak with soothing power
A word in season, as from Thee
To weary ones in needful hour.
6
O fill me with Thy fulness, Lord,
Until my very heart o’erflow
In kindling thought and glowing word,
Thy love to tell, Thy praise to show.
7
O use me, Lord, use even me,
Just as Thou wilt, and when, and where,
Until Thy blessed face I see,
Thy rest, Thy joy, Thy glory share!

Oh how the Lord loves to hear such a prayer like this hymn! It reminds me of Acts 5:41-42: So they went from the presence of the Sanhedrin, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to be dishonored on behalf of the Name. And every day, in the temple and from house to house, they did not cease teaching and announcing the gospel of Jesus as the Christ.

While sitting on my meeting point with my God meditating on the wonder of His love, this hymn came to my mind. While search the webs for it, your website provided the answer. Thank you for preserving it for generations yet unborn. What will I leave behind for my generations?

Woke with this song this morning as I came to pray. An old and precious hymn with timeless significance. As a teacher and counsellor it was my constant prayer reaching out to troubled teens. Still relevant as I attend the funeral later of a "neighbour" in my husband's Nursing Home. "Anywhere, Lord; anytime!" even approaching 80!

This morning sitting in my prayer chair with candle lit, I asked the Lord to speak with me and immediately my mind went to the first verse of this old but wonderful hymn, which I had not thought of in many years! I sang this hymn when I was in The Salvation Army, more than 20 years ago. I'm now an Anglican and Third Order Franciscan Novice. It is the hymn that expresses the longings of my heart perfectly. I give thanks for this website, because I had to Google the first line of the hymn to recall the rest of it and your website was at the top of the list. Thank you Father, Son and Holy Spirit ❣️
