A mighty Fortress is our God,
A Bulwark never failing;
Our Helper He amid the flood
Of mortal ills prevailing:
For still our ancient foe
Doth seek to work us woe;
His craft and power are great,
And, armed with cruel hate,
On earth is not his equal.
A Bulwark never failing;
Our Helper He amid the flood
Of mortal ills prevailing:
For still our ancient foe
Doth seek to work us woe;
His craft and power are great,
And, armed with cruel hate,
On earth is not his equal.

Did we in our own strength confide,
Our striving would be losing;
Were not the right Man on our side,
The Man of God’s own choosing:
Dost ask who that may be?
Christ Jesus, it is He;
Lord Sabaoth His Name,
From age to age the same,
And He must win the battle.
Our striving would be losing;
Were not the right Man on our side,
The Man of God’s own choosing:
Dost ask who that may be?
Christ Jesus, it is He;
Lord Sabaoth His Name,
From age to age the same,
And He must win the battle.

And though this world, with devils filled,
Should threaten to undo us,
We will not fear, for God hath willed
His truth to triumph through us:
The Prince of Darkness grim,
We tremble not for him;
His rage we can endure,
For lo! his doom is sure,
One little word shall fell him.
Should threaten to undo us,
We will not fear, for God hath willed
His truth to triumph through us:
The Prince of Darkness grim,
We tremble not for him;
His rage we can endure,
For lo! his doom is sure,
One little word shall fell him.

That word above all earthly powers,
No thanks to them, abideth;
The Spirit and the gifts are ours
Through Him who with us sideth:
Let goods and kindred go,
This mortal life also;
The body they may kill:
God’s truth abideth still,
His Kingdom is forever.
No thanks to them, abideth;
The Spirit and the gifts are ours
Through Him who with us sideth:
Let goods and kindred go,
This mortal life also;
The body they may kill:
God’s truth abideth still,
His Kingdom is forever.

Powerful line that always gets me .
"We will not fear, for God hath willed, His truth to triumph through us."

I woke up this morning with the first six words of this song and had to look it up as I knew it was God's assurance to me after some very disturbing news last night.
I know it is well. Last night's sadness is now this morning's smile because of my Mighty Fortress, my Never-failing Bulwark and my Helper amidst the flood.

This hymn is really powerful and inspiring. May God grant us the Grace to stand for Him to the end like Martin Luther did.

There is a mistake in who wrote the tune being used in this playing. The tune your using is by J.S. Bach based off of Luther's tune. Luther's is a rhythmic time while Bach's is a isorythmic.

What a blessing to find this site! The words our brother, Martin Luther wrote will bring strength and spiritual endurance to many more people besides me! How wonderful to read of the same faith in Our Lord, Jesus Christ from all of those who have visited this site. Psalm 46:10 & 11.

Martín Luther was definitely inspired by the Holy Spirit when he wrote this hymn. Which I believe is by far the most moving and inspirational hymn of all time. I can literally sing this hymn over and over again.
