Tis my happiness below

’Tis my happiness below
Not to live without the cross;
But the Savior’s pow’r to know
Sanctifying every loss.
2
Trials must and will befall;
But with humble faith to see
Love inscribed upon them all—
This is happiness to me.
3
Did I meet no trials here,
No chastisement by the way,
Might I not with reason fear
I should prove a castaway?
4
Trials make the promise sweet;
Trials give new life to prayer;
Bring me to my Savior’s feet,
Lay me low and keep me there.

Trials must and will befall... oh to see that love is inscribed upon them all.

May we reason with fear if they don’t come. Lord Jesus don’t cast us away.

Thank You for all the experiences of those who have run this race before us.

My favorite lines are:

stanza 2 "Love inscribed upon them all"

stanza 4 "Trials give new life to prayer."

----------

There are 2 additional stanzas usually omitted:

2b. God in Israel sows the seeds,

Of afflictions, pain and toil;

These spring up, and choke the weeds,

Which would else o'erspread the soil;

------------

3b. Bastards may escape the rod,

Sunk in earthly vain delight;

But the true born son of God;

Must not, would not, if he might.
