The King of love my Shepherd is

1
The King of love my Shepherd is,
  Whose goodness faileth never;
I nothing lack if I am His,
  And He is mine forever.
2
Where streams of living water flow
  My ransomed soul He leadeth,
And, where the verdant pastures grow,
  With food celestial feedeth.
3
Perverse and foolish oft I strayed,
  But yet in love He sought me,
And on His shoulder gently laid,
  And home rejoicing brought me.
4
In death’s dark vale I fear no ill
  With Thee, dear Lord, beside me;
Thy rod and staff my comfort still,
  Thy Cross before to guide me.
5
Thou spread’st a table in my sight;
  Thy unction grace bestoweth;
And oh, what transport of delight
  From Thy pure chalice floweth!
6
And so through all the length of days
  Thy goodness faileth never;
Good Shepherd, may I sing Thy praise
  Within Thy house forever.

I have experienced the divine rescue of Jesus the good shepherd. I was brought up in Christian faith. Through sinful actions I stopped praying going to church as considered myself unworthy. I experienced a series of episodes which brought/involved darkness in form of strange happenings occurring in my home. At same time a Christian calendar was put through my letterbox. The first page wrote "And Jesus said I am the light of the world" another read "All have sinned & come short of the glory of God."

When a dark episode occurred I confronted what I believed must be demonic. I came across by coincidence or not... a certificate I had from sunday school which read "from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures which has kept you wise unto salvation through our Lord Jesus Chirist.". After that I asked Lord for forgiveness & prayed alot. I firmly believe Jesus became my good shepherd & brought me back to His flock. This hymn sums up my feelings & the Lord’s love to rescue His lost sheep whom the Lord never gave up on. Such love.

My favourite hymn. Chosen by my mother for her own funeral 16 years ago, and sang at her wedding 50 years ago. Sang by myself as a soprano choirboy 35 years ago, and more recently as I rejoined another choir in another church as a bassist. My mother was disabled, and it brings me great comfort that she did not fear death. As I myself do not. As I know that our faith and belief in the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God, will join us together again in life everlasting. Whenever I sing or hear this hymn, I am filled with emotion and yearning, but know in my heart the day will come.

I first learned this song while in High School singing in the youth choir, I think. That was at least 55 years ago. I fell in love with the melody and the words. This song came to me tonight but I couldn't remember all the words so I'm very grateful to see all the verses here so can sing it again completely. Thanks to others who shared the background of this absolutely lovely hymn. God bless the developer of this platform also.

Most beautiful hymn, one I was taught in school as a child nearly sixty years ago and thankfully has served me all my life.

This Hymn touches everything from Psalm 23 and has been crafted by true men of God. If only “the World” would listen and learn of our Lord and Saviours love for them it would be a far, far better place for all.

People can know the King of love by them

repenting (Mark 1 verse 4) and believing the gospel (which is that Jesus died taking away their sins with its guilt and punishment) and rose again.

I first came across this hymn in my High School Assembly days over 50 years ago. Since then, it has become a part of me especially in my private and public worship. In my church, for one or two years, it became our closing hymn. Every verse of is impactful anytime I sing. The hymn is spiritually and carefully crafted from Psalm 23. I'm very grateful to the composer and all those who made it available on the internet. God bless you all! Remain under His Shepherding in Jesus name! Amen.

This hymn has been going through my head so much this afternoon, but I couldn't remember all the words. I knew it had something to do with the 23rd Psalm, so I was delighted to find the full lyrics on your website. I'm so thankful, may God richly bless you in all your endeavors.

Wonderful hymn. I learned it from HS over 40 years ago and I can't have enough of it as I play it on my Harmonica. God bless you for posting this hymn.💋
