Am I a soldier of the Cross

1
Am I a soldier of the Cross—
  A follower of the Lamb?
And shall I fear to own His cause,
Or blush to speak His name?

In the name, the precious name,
Of Him who died for me,
Through grace I’ll win the promised crown,
    Whate’er my cross may be.
2
Must I be carried to the skies
  On flowery beds of ease,
While others fought to win the prize
  And sailed through bloody seas?
3
Are there no foes for me to face?
Must I not stem the flood?
Is this vile world a friend to grace,
To help me on to God?
4
Since I must fight if I would reign,
  Increase my courage, Lord!
I’ll bear the toil, endure the pain,
  Supported by Thy Word.

I was in Accra, Ghana for a young people's conference and training in 2002 and we sang this hymn over and over, it was almost like a theme song. What a wonderful time of fellowship and enjoyment of the Lord! I really enjoyed the spirit and genuineness of all the young people there. Praise the Lord!

I am very grateful to God for allowing the Holy Spirit to direct me into this site of awesome blessings. My heart is filled with indescribable joy listening to these tunes. God, I love You dearly with all my heart, soul and being. Make me a great instrument of Your love to all men at every moment of my life. Bless the sponsors and engineers of this and other sites like it to reach out to many more wandering souls. Amen.

Yes, it is the greatest privilege to be the soldier of the Lord Jesus Christ. Soldiers of this world fight and wins the battle by killing. But, the soldier of Christ fights and wins the battle by saving souls of men and women.

God bless you for this site and sharing the praises that the Lord's people have wrote. I learned this song through my mum who is a very sincere Christian. It's a beautiful song like any other hymns and we indeed live as a soldier of the Cross as Jesus' desciples with His wonderful and beautiful name!
