It has always serves as a source of consolation to my soul. I got a deeper revelation about the song when I lost my daughter. I wept like a baby, but a friend ministered to me through this song, and since then, I believe that nothing in this world happens without the knowledge of our heavenly Father. Surely, it is well with my soul.

I really love this hymn because of the message that rings forth! My family has experienced countless trials and yet we strive to count it all joy. One day the perils of this life will be over and my hope and longing is with Christ! Even so, Come quickly! Praise Jesus that my sins have been nailed to the cross and I bear it no more!

Recently a friend's husband past and she asked that my mother & I sing this song at the services. And I never thought of this song for this type of service, but it says it all... It is well with my soul! Everyone was comforted by the song and it was a great testimony to everyone there.

I was brought up in the Bible belt in Alabama. My parents did not always agree, hence the three divorces from each other. They even went on to marry others. Mother had three husbands under her belt, one she buried. Father has had four wives all ending in divorces. I married a Navy man. His first ship was the USS Stark FFG 31. That was the ship that was hit by two Iranian missiles. He had gotten off six miths before the disaster. He knew 39 of the 41 killed. His rack was distroyed. Not long after that my husband's mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. It went from one breast to the other, to her lungs, to her spine, and finally she had a brain tumor. I always told her when I talked to her that I was praying for her. She gave me the best compliment. Before she died she accepted the Lord because she said I had witnessed to her by my actions since I had married her son. Mom was dead just after her 49th birthday after a five year battle. Through all this I remember the song saying 'whatever my lot, it is well with my soul.' After hearing the history of this song (which I wish you provided to others), I knew that no matter what happens in my life, God is there to help make it well in my soul. I just have to give it over to Him which is never an easy task. We all want to have that control, but if we give the control to the Lord then He will make it right.
