1
Grace! ’tis a charming sound,
Harmonious to the ear;
Heav’n with the echo shall resound,
And all the earth shall hear.
All sufficient grace!
Never powerless!
It is Christ who lives in me,
In His exhaustlessness.
2
’Twas grace that wrote my name
In life’s eternal book;
’Twas grace that gave me to the Lamb,
Who all my sorrows took.
All sufficient grace!
Never powerless!
It is Christ who lives in me,
In His exhaustlessness.
3
Grace taught my wandering feet
To tread the pilgrim road;
And new supplies each hour I meet
While pressing on to God.
All sufficient grace!
Never powerless!
It is Christ who lives in me,
In His exhaustlessness.
4
Grace taught my heart to pray,
And made my eyes o’erflow;
’Tis grace which kept me to this day,
And will not let me go.
All sufficient grace!
Never powerless!
It is Christ who lives in me,
In His exhaustlessness.
5
Grace all the work shall crown
Through everlasting days;
It lays in love the topmost stone,
And well deserves the praise.
All sufficient grace!
Never powerless!
It is Christ who lives in me,
In His exhaustlessness.
6
Oh, let that grace inspire
My heart with strength divine;
May all my powers to Thee aspire,
And all my days be Thine.
All sufficient grace!
Never powerless!
It is Christ who lives in me,
In His exhaustlessness.

Grace and grace only. this song made me remember my late father and friend those days when we used to have family alter singing from the Christ Apostolic Church Hymn book. may your soul rest in peace my father and friend, we shall see at the bosom of the most high where we shall part no more. I love and miss you so much Daddy. this song you always sing with us when things was going rough, your lessons still abide with me and I live in them day and night.

Philip Doddridge was a gifted student, but he turned down a scholarship to train for ministry in the Church of England. He chose instead to side with the Dissenters, the Nonconformists who emphasized personal commitment to Christ over institutional loyalty. He went to a Dissenter college, and later he pastored a Congregational church. He wrote about 370 hymns, never seeing any of them published in his lifetime. - Great Songs of Faith by Brown & Norton
----------------------------
Additional 2nd stanza by Doddridge:
Grace first contrived the way
To save rebellious man;
And all the steps that grace display
Which drew the wondrous plan.

This song just came up to my mind this morning as I got to the office. My heart was filled with some burden and I just needed to listen to an hymn that will help me. Thank You Jesus for this Great grace it has seen me through till now. May God bless the writer of this hymn. The song is as soothing as Grace itself.
