1
Thou art the Rock everlasting,
  Spiritual Rock cleft for me;
Drinking of Thee as the Spirit,
  Thus I become one with Thee.
Thou art the Rock never shaken,
  ’Tis on this Rock we are built;
Joined unto Thee thru redemption,
  Nothing can shake us thru guilt.

Lord, how we treasure Thy value,
  All that Thou art is for us;
While here in loving remembrance
    We share Thy wealth glorious.
2
Thou art the Stone tried by many,
  Precious to God, dear to us,
Thou art so sure and trustworthy,
  Thy strength is so marvelous.
Thou art the Stone that is living,
  Chosen of God, made our own;
So energetic and pow’rful,
  With endless life to us known.
3
Thou art the Stone of Foundation
  Laid by our God, safe and sure;
It is by this sure foundation
  Safety fore’er we secure.
To us no other foundation
  Of any kind man can lay;
Thou art the only foundation
  Which we have now and for aye.
4
Lord, for God’s spiritual building,
  Thou art the Chief Cornerstone;
Both of the Jews and the Gentiles
  By Thee are built into one.
Lord, Thou art also the Topstone,
  Brought forth in measureless grace;
Thou art our cover and glory,
  Moving our hearts in Thy praise.

For God's building Christ is a stone in three aspects. Christ is the foundation stone to uphold God's building (Isa. 28:16; 1 Cor. 3:11), the cornerstone to join together the Gentile and Jewish members of His Body (Eph. 2:20; 1 Pet. 2:6), and the topstone to consummate everything of God's building.

He is indeed a sure foundation. A corner stone that connects no matter what kind of people you are as long as you believe and receive Him as life and eventually He will transform us to be a precious stones for His building. Amen!

Through this hymn I sense much assurance that my Lord is with me through all situations. I'm truly sheltered in Him.

In the past Brother Nee and I often talked together, always very congenially. One afternoon I went to visit him. He was sitting in the rocking chair in his house and asked, "Brother Witness, what is patience?" I knew that any question out of his mouth would not be simple, so I did not dare to answer casually. After about three minutes, I still could not tell him what patience is. Eventually, I could only say, "Patience is to bear with others when they trouble you." Brother Nee said, "No." He then said, "Patience is Christ." This enlightened me. I began to realize that our patience, humility, and all our virtues should be Christ. God caused Christ to be our redemption as well as our righteousness and sanctification (1 Cor. 1:30). Through such fellowship with Brother Nee the entire Bible was opened up to me. I found more than two hundred types concerning Christ in the Old Testament, such as the tabernacle, the Ark, the golden lampstand, the table of the bread of the Presence, and the incense altar. I also began to write hymns concerning the riches of Christ, including one hymn that is specifically on Christ being the stone (Hymns, #199), because many stones in the Bible typify Christ.
