Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
In light inaccessible hid from our eyes,
Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,
Almighty, victorious, Thy great name we praise.
In light inaccessible hid from our eyes,
Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,
Almighty, victorious, Thy great name we praise.

Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light,
Nor wanting, nor wasting, Thou rulest in might;
Thy justice like mountains high soaring above
Thy clouds which are fountains of goodness and love.
Nor wanting, nor wasting, Thou rulest in might;
Thy justice like mountains high soaring above
Thy clouds which are fountains of goodness and love.

To all life Thou givest, to both great and small;
In all life Thou livest, the true life of all;
We blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree,
And wither and perish, but nought changeth Thee.
In all life Thou livest, the true life of all;
We blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree,
And wither and perish, but nought changeth Thee.
4
Great Father of Glory, pure Father of Light
Thine angels adore Thee, all veiling their sight;
All laud we would render, O help us to see:
’Tis only the splendor of light hideth Thee.
Thine angels adore Thee, all veiling their sight;
All laud we would render, O help us to see:
’Tis only the splendor of light hideth Thee.

Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
In light inaccessible hid from our eyes,
Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,
Almighty, victorious, Thy great name we praise.
In light inaccessible hid from our eyes,
Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,

Walter later served at the Free High Church, Edinburg; the Roxburgh Free Church , Edinburg; the Orwell Free Church, Milnathort, Kinrossshire ; and the Free Tron Church, Glasgow. The Free Church of Scotland elected him its moderator during its Jubilee Year in 1893.

The music is a Welsh tune, “St. Denio” by John Roberts in 1839. (Born, March 30, 1807), Henllan, Wales. John was the son of Aaron and Jane Roberts. He is often confused with another Welsh musician of the same name John Roberts, (1822-1877).
Some of Roberts’ hymn-tunes were published in “Peroriaeth Hyfryd, ” by John Parry of Chester, 1837.
Other hymn-tunes appeared in Roberts’ “Caniadau y Cyssegr” ( Hymns of the Sanctuary) ( Denbigh, Wales, 1839), and still others in a posthumous Memoriam, published by his sons.
This hymn was sung in Westminster Abbey, London, England, at the 2002 funeral of Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother.

This hymn from my childhood was on my heart mind & lips on awakening in the early hours of this morning. Unfortunately I could only remember the first few words but always thought & sang 'invincible' instead of invisible! Although incorrect I feel it's so highly appropriate! May The Almightys" calming truths for these troubled times reign, & help us to face life with courage & faith in 2022. Amen

This powerful Hymn lifts me up to the heights, enabling me to get a closer glimpse of His Glory!!!! His Magnificence!!! His Beauty! Our God is beautiful beyond description. This hymn is the closest I know to sing out high praises to His Great Name. I love singing this hymn and thank God for the composer.
