“Lamb of God!” with one accord;
Thousand thousand saints replying,
Wake at once the echo’ng chord.
All in heav’n together throng;
Loud and far each tongue partaking
Rolls around the endless song.
Ever to the Father’s throne;
Every knee to Jesus bending,
All the mind in heav’n is one.
Equal honors to the Son,
All the Son’s effulgence beaming,
Makes the Father’s glory known.
Hosts unnumbered round the Lamb,
Crowned with light and joy unfading,
Hail Him as the great “I AM.”
Rests in undisturbed repose,
Blest in Jesus’ full salvation,
Sorrow now nor thraldom knows.
Loudly swells the song of praise;
Through creation’s vault, Amen!
Amen! responsive joy doth raise.

We have to realize that this hymn is a poetic exposition of Revelation 4-5. The centre of this hymn resides in Jesus Christ the Lamb of God, the One who as the Lion-Lamb would comfort the weeping John in Revelation 5, being qualified to open the seven seals of the scroll of God's eternal economy. The scene in the heavenlies depicted in this hymn portrays the sense of utter joy when the Lord Jesus as the Redeemer and Overcomer has been qualifed by God to open the seals of God's economy. We must ourselves enter in prayerful contemplation, pray reading Revelation 4-5, till this vision, this presentation of Christ as the Lamb of God in utter glory (and which calls from us much subjective appreciation and thankfullness as we repose here as His new creation and as the New Jerusalem to come) bursts forth from our mingled spirit to enlighten the eyes of our heart to attain the full knowledge of Him and to know the true hope of His calling.

We sang it in strains of joy many times following the remembrance of our Lord Jesus Christ. We look forward to that day when God will reconcile all of creation to Himself and we will join that song around the throne!! Hallelujah, Amen!!
