Lord, I love You more today

1
Dearest Lord, I come;
This is now my pray’r,
Keep me open to You,
May I always love You.

Lord, I love You more today,
So much more than yesterday;
Lord, I need You, Lord, I love You.
2
Now that the choice is mine,
Lord, I still choose You;
’Though the paths be not marked,
I’m still trusting in You.
3
And if the way is hard,
If things don’t go my way,
Keep my heart soft to You,
Keep me open to You.
4
Dearest Lord, I pray,
Lead me everyday;
Don’t let things come between,
Keep my eyes fixed on You.
5
When many years have gone,
And many things have passed,
I will still be for You,
I will still say to You:

Lord this is now my prayer. Keep me open to You. May I always love You. Lord, I love You more today. Lord, I love You and Lord, I need You. When many years have gone and many things have passed how I need Your grace and mercy and preserved me in Your Body, Lord and in Your recovery alone.

Today I was quite touched by this hymn. To me, it seems like a life-long journey with the Lord. In verse one, a teenager comes to the Lord for the first time, hoping that she will "always" love the Lord. In verse 2, she is living independently for the first time, and now has a "choice" between the Lord and the world, but "still" chooses the Lord. In verse 3, she meets obstacles in her Christian life. "The way is hard." But she still relies on the Lord. In verse 4, she has hit a plateau, and needs the Lord to "lead" him "everyday." Finally, in verse 5, as an old person, after many "years" and "things," she still is committed to the Lord, loving Him. The chorus shows that throughout her entire life, the person's love for the Lord kept on growing. It wasn't just a difference between the beginning and the end. It's a daily, small, incremental growth. This hymn resembles a love story between an aging couple, and shows that the Lord should be a person to us, someone with whom we have a intimate, loving relationship, from youth until old age.

Amen. Praise the Lord that our God is full of love. May the Lord cause us to love Him all the days of our life. We should make Him the center of our life.
