O let us rejoice in the Lord evermore, Though all things around us be trying, Though floods of affliction like sea billows roar, It’s better to sing than be sighing.
Then rejoice evermore, rejoice evermore, It is better to sing than be sighing: It is better to live than be dying; So let us rejoice evermore.
2
O let us rejoice in the Lord evermore, When the darts of the tempter are flying, For Satan still dreads, as he oft did of yore, Our singing much more than our sighing.
Then rejoice evermore, rejoice evermore, It is better to sing than be sighing: It is better to live than be dying; So let us rejoice evermore.
3
O let us rejoice in the Lord evermore, When sickness upon us is stealing, No cordial like gladness our strength can restore, For joy is the fountain of healing.
Then rejoice evermore, rejoice evermore, It is better to sing than be sighing: It is better to live than be dying; So let us rejoice evermore.
We all experience these things but we don’t have to stay discouraged. We can sing a hymn with other Christians and rejoice! It is much better than sighing. Righteousness, peace, and joy is there in our spirit.

This is the difference between us and the unbelievers: We can still rejoice amidst our afflictions. Yet our rejoicing is in the Lord... Hallelujah!

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I say rejoice!
Always rejoice, unceasingly pray, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
"Lord, keep me rejoicing in You all the days of my life!"

A. B Simpson had serious health problems. I could not find the details but it turned him to the Lord. Even though he suffered with these things and other difficult things in his life, he could write such a jubilant song. It is better to be singing than sighing. That is the work of the Lord in him.

This is a very precious hymn to me, always uplifting and so encouraging. I first heard it in a home meeting on my first visit to the US. I can still picture the brother playing the piano his face shining, his beautiful voice.... no cordial like gladness our strength can restore for JOY is the fountain of healing. The healing balm Saviour desires His kingdom people express Him with JOY, He flows joyfully from a contrite and broken spirit. This joy is His Kingdoms reality and expression. So let us rejoice in the Lord evermore..
Once you sing like this, your coldness will turn to zeal, your deadness will turn to life, your weakness will turn to strength, and your sorrow will turn to joy. Therefore, you should memorize the hymns thoroughly. At the same time, you need to be filled within. If there is no filling, there will be no overflow.
As we enjoy this hymn, it is as refreshing as eating ice cream, especially for the older brothers and sisters when they come to verse 3:
O let us rejoice in the Lord evermore,
When sickness upon us is stealing,
No cordial like gladness our strength can restore,
For joy is the fountain of healing.
As you fellowship with the Lord this way, you may say to the Lord, "No cordial like gladness my strength can restore, for joy is the fountain of healing." Then you will surely have a desire—"I will go to the meeting."

Rejoice evermore, rejoice evermore!
Even when all things around us are trying?
Even when Satan’s darts are flying?
Even When sickness upon us is stealing?
Yes! in all these times, not only in good times.
