Day by day, and with each passing moment

1
Day by day, and with each passing moment,
Strength I find to meet my trials here;
Trusting in my Father’s wise bestowment,
I’ve no cause for worry or for fear.
He, whose heart is kind beyond all measure,
Gives unto each day what He deems best,
Lovingly its part of pain and pleasure,
Mingling toil with peace and rest.
2
Every day the Lord Himself is near me,
With a special mercy for each hour;
All my cares He fain would bear and cheer me,
He whose name is Counsellor and Pow’r.
The protection of His child and treasure
Is a charge that on Himself He laid;
“As thy days, thy strength shall be in measure,”
This the pledge to me He made.
3
Help me then, in every tribulation,
So to trust Thy promises, O Lord,
That I lose not faith’s sweet consolation,
Offered me within Thy holy Word.
Help me, Lord, when toil and trouble meeting,
E’er to take, as from a father’s hand,
One by one, the days, the moments fleeting,
Till with Christ the Lord I stand.

I woke up this morning with these lyrics in my heart today. I actually had to google the lyrics to find the title and all the verses. Thank you!

Praise the Lord! Our faith is in our spirit, and it is excellent; the proving of our faith is by trials that come through sufferings. As we practice losing our soul-life in this age and go through sufferings and trials, the proving of our faith is being found unto praise, glory, and honor, and this will result in the receiving the end of our faith – the salvation of our souls. Hallelujah, what a sweet promise! 😀

As a believer with an incurable form of cancer, I can attest to this hymn’s power to remind and reinforce the daily provision of my loving God to watch over and guide me all the way home.

My church youth group, back in the late 1960's and early 1970's always closed our Sunday evening meetings with this comforting, inspiring hymn. We frequently sang all the verses. It was a commitment to God and each other that we would draw on the strength of the Holy Spirit to meet the challenges of the coming week.

Psalm 121:1&2

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.

My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.
