Turn your eyes upon Jesus

1
O soul, are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There’s light for a look at the Savior,
And life more abundant and free.

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
  In the light of His glory and grace.
2
Through death into life everlasting
He passed, and we follow Him there;
O’er us sin no more hath dominion
For more than conqu’rors we are!
3
His Word shall not fail you, He promised;
Believe Him and all will be well;
Then go to a world that is dying,
His perfect salvation to tell!

Thanks so much to the previous writer for the background to this song.

"There's light for a look at the Saviour and life more abundant and free."

This is no ordinary look or mere glance. According to the type of the bronze serpent in Numbers 21:8-9, the one who wanted to be healed needed to " look attentively, expectantly and with a steady and absorbing gaze" [Amp Bible].

Only this kind of looking will save us.

Hellen Howard Lemmel (1864-1961) was born in Wardle, England. Her father was a Wesleyan Methodist Pastor. Her family immigrated to the United States when she was 12. They lived in Mississippi before settling In Wisconsin.

Ms. Lemmel had a reputation of being a brilliant singer. She studied private voice in Germany for four years. In the 1900’s she gave concerts throughout the Midwest. This hymn was written by Ms. Lemmel In 1922 at the age of 54. It is also known as “The Heavenly Vision”- she also wrote the music. It was inspired by a track she received from a missionary friend in 1918 called “Focused: A Story and Song” written by Isabella Lilias, an English artist and missionary to Muslims in Algeria.

I have been blessed by this song for many years. Yesterday I was at the local VA Medical center for treatment of macular degeneration in my left eye. I suggested to staff members that this should be the theme song of the medial clinic, knowing that they would not and could not, but I sang it in the halls while there. Certainly made me feel better - as well as many of the people who heard it and commented!

I had cataract surgery 3 days ago. This song is on my heart today. I’m praying for greater vision of the Father. The only way to get that is by looking ( with literally better vision ) straight into the EYES of His Son!! Yeshua !

Jesus!

For 2 days:"Turn your eyes upon Jesus" has been on my mind. Went to sleep and woke up with this song still playing in my mind and heart. God is so good, He gives us what we need to make it through each and every day.
