He leadeth me! O blessed thought,
O words with heav’nly comfort fraught;
Whate’er I do, where’er I be,
Still ’tis Christ’s hand that leadeth me.
O words with heav’nly comfort fraught;
Whate’er I do, where’er I be,
Still ’tis Christ’s hand that leadeth me.
He leadeth me! He leadeth me!
By His own hand He leadeth me;
His faithful follower I would be,
For by His hand He leadeth me.
By His own hand He leadeth me;
His faithful follower I would be,
For by His hand He leadeth me.

Sometimes ’mid scenes of deepest gloom,
Sometimes where Eden’s bowers bloom,
By waters still, o’er troubled sea,
Still ’tis His hand that leadeth me.
Sometimes where Eden’s bowers bloom,
By waters still, o’er troubled sea,
Still ’tis His hand that leadeth me.

Lord, I would clasp Thy hand in mine,
Nor ever murmur or repine;
Content, whatever lot I see,
Since it is Thou that leadest me.
Nor ever murmur or repine;
Content, whatever lot I see,
Since it is Thou that leadest me.

And when my task on earth is done,
When, by Thy grace, the vict’ry’s won,
E’en death’s cold wave I will not flee,
Since Thou in triumph leadest me.
When, by Thy grace, the vict’ry’s won,
E’en death’s cold wave I will not flee,
Since Thou in triumph leadest me.

Very inspiring song. I am never my own. His faithful follower I would be, even when my life on earth is done. Every line so meaningful. And the melody is greatest - I used to sing this song in our church choir. Just fantastic!

It is so comforting that the Lord leads us.
The author of this hymn was pastor of Philadelphia's 1st Baptist Church during the Civil War. After one service, they were fellowshipping at deacon's house about the blessedness of God's leading. As others went on talking, Gilmore took out a pencil and wrote the words of this hymn, gave it to his wife, and forgot about it.
3 years later he was a pastoral candidate for a church in Rochester, NY. Since he was unfamiliar with the church's hymnal, he began leafing through it and spotted the hymn, "He Leadeth Me" - his own hymn! Without his knowledge, Mrs. Gilmore had sent the words to a Christian periodical, which had set them to music. - Great Songs of Faith by Brown and Norton.

A beautiful song indeed. A beautiful act to be lead by the Almighty's own hand. He has lead me in difficult circumstances and I praise Him with this song.

Whenever I sing this song, it makes my day. I love it.

I truly love the hymn because I went through some bitter heartbreaks because I thought I was in the right way, but I realised that only the Lord leadeth me to all the good things in my life. The song comforteth me because He truly leadeth me.

I sure know Christ leads me.
The words of this hymn have blessed me immensely. How glorious that our Lord leads us! Psalm 23:2

Lovely song! Always loved it from a little girl, but I notice that it is missing the first few lines... Can this be fixed? It is such a nice song!
