1
Still, still with Thee, when purple morning breaketh,
When the bird waketh, and the shadows flee;
Fairer than morning, lovelier than daylight,
Dawns the sweet consciousness, I am with Thee.
When the bird waketh, and the shadows flee;
Fairer than morning, lovelier than daylight,
Dawns the sweet consciousness, I am with Thee.
2
As in the dawning, o’er the waveless ocean,
The image of the morning star doth rest,
So in this stillness Thou beholdest only
Thine image in the waters of my breast.
The image of the morning star doth rest,
So in this stillness Thou beholdest only
Thine image in the waters of my breast.
3
When sinks the soul, subdued by toil, to slumber,
Its closing eye looks up to Thee in prayer;
Sweet the repose, beneath Thy wings o’ershadowing,
But sweeter still to wake and find Thee there.
Its closing eye looks up to Thee in prayer;
Sweet the repose, beneath Thy wings o’ershadowing,
But sweeter still to wake and find Thee there.
4
So shall it be at last, in that bright morning
When the soul waketh, and life’s shadows flee;
Oh, in that hour, fairer than daylight’s dawning,
Shall rise the glorious thought, I am with Thee!
When the soul waketh, and life’s shadows flee;
Oh, in that hour, fairer than daylight’s dawning,
Shall rise the glorious thought, I am with Thee!

"Harriet Beecher Stowe spent her girlhood in the Litchfield hills of western Connecticut, a location which offered rare delights of sunrise over bird-thronged hills and valleys. She is known chiefly as a writer of fiction, particularly 'Uncle Tom's Cabin'; but the hymnody of America has been greatly enriched by her hymns: 'Abide with me, O Lord, and I in thee', 'When winds are raging o'er the upper ocean', 'Knocking, Knocking, who is there? '. - Lyric Religion by H. Augustine Smith

Uncle Tom's Cabin by this hymn author may be the most influential novel ever written as it influenced the world conscience to abolish slavery. On being introduced to Harriet Beecher Stowe in 1862, Abraham Lincoln fondly commented she was "the little woman who wrote the book that started this great war."
"Uncle Tom's Cabin" is one of the best books I have ever read, and the funniest also. The book gets shallow at the end after Tom gets sold to the absolutely wicked Simon Legree.
In the book there are some great Christians characters and some who failed under pressure. The worthy Miss Ophelia who moves from Vermont to help her brother in New Orleans is a virtuous devout anti-slavery Christian who gets exposed to her own prejudices and coldness, and changes through the inspiration of her niece Evangeline and an unruly slave girl that she adopted. I thought Harriet wrote some of herself into both the Evangeline and Miss Ophelia characters.

Wonderful hymn! Lord grant us such sweet fellowship with You all the days!

it is a beautiful example of Victorian Christian mysticism.
Here are the other verses:
Alone with thee, amid the mystic shadows,
The solemn hush of nature newly borne;
Alone with Thee in breathless adoration,
In the calm dew and freshness of the morn.
Still, still with Thee! as to each newborn morning
A fresh and solemn splendour still is given;
So does this blessed consciouness awaking
Breathe each day nearness unto Thee and heaven.
