I’m pressing on the upward way

1
I’m pressing on the upward way,
New heights I’m gaining every day;
Still praying as I onward bound,
“Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.”

Lord, lift me up, and let me stand
By faith on Canaan’s tableland;
A higher plane than I have found,
  Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.
2
My heart has no desire to stay
Where doubts arise and fears dismay;
Though some may dwell where these abound,
My prayer, my aim, is higher ground.
3
I want to live above the world,
Though Satan’s darts at me are hurled;
For faith has caught the joyful sound,
The song of saints on higher ground.
4
I want to scale the utmost height
And catch a gleam of glory bright;
But still I’ll pray till rest I’ve found,
“Lord, lead me on to higher ground.”

It's a great hymn. I sang it with endless joy ; the joy of the Lord. During my secondary school days, it was one of the hymns we used to sing during our scriptural Union meeting. I loved to sing it especially when I am in the Spirit. I feel rejuvenated at hearing the lyrics

I was singing in the Spirit this morning and I was receiving a chorus from the Lord. I have loved this old hymn for 50 years since I first heard it. Then today I began to sing the lyrics to the new tune that the Holy Spirit Was giving me. God is a Good Good God Absolutely all the time.

The Lord gave me an instruction very profound in 2021, Last night I was just asking the Lord why things seems to go a different direction from my/our expectation, I was worried with too many questions in my Spirit; then I slept off, woke up this morning with this song in my Spirit, that I've not sang in ages, search for the lyrics and I could tell the answer I seek is in stanza 1 and very much in stanza 2 "My heart has no desire to stay

Where doubts arise and fears dismay;

Though some may dwell where these abound,

My prayer, my aim, is higher ground."

Because at this point it was looking like doubt arise but my heart has never desired to stay.... But to press onward and forward. Thank you Jesus, your love for me is overwhelming, always leading, guiding and laying my concerns to rest. I love you Lord.

After our morning prayer with my family, this inspiring hymn came to my spirit man. I went on to google it and found this your master piece with the piano backing the lyrics.

Thanks so much and may God abundantly bless you.

Thank you. Was feeling the need to sing this old song I remembered from my childhood. I searched for the words and was led here and was able to sing it with the piano. Thank you.

This hymn always reminds me that there's more to grasp; stretch a bit more. Brings to mind Paul's words of ' am pressing on' not yet attained.

Great song!!!

This song always remind me of my true self. I am eternally grateful to the composer of this great song. It's a great way to be aware that I am not an ordinary person that may reside where fear and doubts abound. I desire to be planted on the higher grounds.

This is an amazing song

To be in the spirit is the key, the secret. In the spirit we will experience many wonderful things of Christ because we have crossed the Jordan and entered into Canaan. When we are in the spirit, we are in the rest, and we are in the Holy of Holies. Therefore, we must always renounce the natural man, the outer man. For example, many times in the Lord's work I was tempted by the enemy to quarrel with others. On those occasions I felt that my reason was right, that the case was mine, and that I had the doctrine to support me. Yet while I was trying to speak, something deep within restricted me and stopped me. In order to go along with that deep feeling, I had to drop my quarreling. Consequently, it seemed that I had nothing to say. But I can testify that every time I went along with the spirit, there was victory. If we take care of our spirit, the mighty One in our spirit will be our strength. We will be transcendent and victorious over many things. When we come to the meetings, we will come with many items of Christ to contribute, either in prayer, singing, giving a testimony, or speaking a short word. Philippians 4:13 says, "I am able to do all things in Him who empowers me." But where does Christ empower us? He empowers us in our spirit. Our mind is the stronghold and the open gate for the enemy, but our spirit is the base for the Lord to do His work. Thus, when we go along with the mind, we are defeated, even though we may be doing something good. But if we go along with the spirit, we will be victorious. We will be on a high mountain, on higher ground, and, in the words of a hymn, "on Canaan's tableland" (Hymns, #396). We will be in the heavens and will be transcendent.
